Tutu Tuesday: A Journey to 1912! 🩰
Hello my gorgeous ballet-loving darlings! Welcome to post number 4176 on your favourite tutu blog, Pink Tutu! It’s a bright, beautiful Tuesday, which means it’s time for another #TutuTuesday journey! Today, we're stepping back in time, all the way to 9th January, 1912. Oh my goodness, imagine! 🤯
My beautiful pink tutu and I are hopping onto a rather magnificent train (they really did have style back then, don't you think?) to visit Paris, the heart of the ballet world! Think ballerinas in exquisite gowns with beautiful swirling tulle tutus, and the romance of the ballet. I've packed my cutest beaded purse, just big enough for my ballet ticket and a little rouge. 💄
You know I adore ballet in all its forms, but back in 1912, it was a truly special experience. Imagine! Performances weren't in the sleek, modern theaters we see today. Picture beautiful, ornate, gilded halls, each one radiating romance and elegance.
This week, I want to chat about the evolution of the tutu, as a symbol of grace, freedom and movement. 💫 You might be surprised to learn that in 1912, the tutu was still quite a young, fashion-forward addition to the world of dance.
You see, while ballet existed for centuries before the late 19th century, the iconic tutu we know and love had not yet fully developed. Ballerinas back then often danced in rather bulky skirts, not exactly ideal for soaring through the air! The traditional ballet skirt at this time resembled more of a bell skirt, just barely skimming the ankle.
But then came the revolutionary change! The 'Romantic Ballet' era took center stage, and with it, the idea of the tutu changed entirely! These amazing 'Romantic Era' ballets often centered around fantastical stories and fairy tales, leading to the evolution of the tutu as we know it, designed to mimic the fluttering, ethereal wings of butterflies or fairies!
So you see, those fluffy, swirling layers of tulle we love so much today had a wonderfully imaginative, beautiful, artistic journey into existence.
I can just picture it! Ballerinas moving with the most delicate grace and captivating precision, their tulle tutus swirling around them like dreams! It would have been so inspiring, don't you think?
Of course, it wasn’t just the tutu that was enchanting! Back in 1912, Parisian style was reaching its absolute peak. Ladies of the high society wore breathtaking creations, beautiful furs and dazzling jewels, all emphasizing a perfect blend of elegance and grandeur. What an incredibly glamorous era it must have been!
While we might not all be able to hop on a train to Paris in 1912 (it is tricky to get those time travel tickets, darling!), we can definitely add a dash of that classic Parisian style to our own outfits! Don’t you think? Imagine adding a delicate, feminine touch to your everyday outfit with a beautiful lace scarf or a pair of exquisite gloves! It wouldn’t take much to add a little old-world glamour! 🧤🎀
And remember my little sweeties, the beauty of fashion lies in its endless possibilities. Every era has its unique style, but the essence of true style is in choosing what makes us feel confident, graceful and beautifully YOU!✨
So my lovelies, what do you think about this little trip back in time? Do any of you fancy trying a tutu makeover, complete with an old-world French-inspired ensemble? Maybe even add a feather boa, for that added touch of 1912!
Have fun creating your own beautiful looks! Share them with me on Instagram #PinkTutuTuesday and show off your style!
And remember, no matter the style, embrace the joy and beauty of fashion! And let’s never forget to dance with joy! 💕🩰
Until next week, lovelies,
