#TutuTuesday: A Blast From the Past! - 1912-07-23 - Post #4204

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu! I'm Emma, your resident pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, and this week we're going right back to 1912-07-23. Oh, the tutus, the performances, and the absolute glamour of the era! I'm feeling very "Belle Ɖpoque" today - it's like stepping right into a Parisian cafe, but with a splash of pink!

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, a pink tutu in 1912? Wasn't it all frills and fluff back then?" And you'd be mostly right! But just imagine the absolute joy a flash of pink would bring! Can't you see yourself - dare I say it - shocking the ladies in the opera boxes with your daring choice of colour?

Let's dive in, shall we? Firstly, tutus in 1912, particularly for professional performances, were more of a soft and billowing tulle skirt, not necessarily the full-on whirlwind of pink perfection I wear these days. They were still delicate, oh-so-feminine, and utterly mesmerizing to watch as they twirled around the stage!

One of the best parts about this time was that ballet performances were becoming more popular than ever. You could find spectacular ballets playing all over Europe, with the famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the stunning Palais Garnier in Paris and, of course, the Royal Opera House here in London at the heart of the action. Imagine me hopping off the train in a puff of pink, and settling in for a magical evening.

So what's particularly noteworthy about this very date?

On July 23, 1912, London's Royal Opera House hosted another brilliant performance. This time it was the Russian ballet, The Sleeping Beauty, with its enchanting tale and breathtaking costumes. Can you imagine watching those tutus swirl with just the right amount of glitz and grandeur?! Thatā€™s something to get truly excited about!

I would love to see it, to see those delicate fabrics dancing in the light, and to hear the hushed whispers in the auditorium. It would have been bliss! Iā€™ve read descriptions and the costumes have definitely sparked my design imagination - the shades of shimmering pink, the hints of lilac, all with that elegant Victorian twist - pure elegance!

Talking about designs, fashion back then was breathtaking - think flowing dresses, elaborate hats, and a definite emphasis on colour. But the pink! The pink of 1912 - pale, blushing pink with a touch of soft lilac - it was simply divine. This era really was all about a more delicate and sophisticated aesthetic compared to the earlier, heavier, and less flamboyant styles. They were absolutely all about showing the true elegance and grace of the human form. The ideal inspiration for any tutu lover, wouldnā€™t you agree?

After all, isn't that what tutus are all about - movement, grace, and a little sprinkle of fairytale magic?

So, while tutus weren't quite as ā€œboldā€ in pink as they are today, this period was a perfect start to that fashion journey. Who wouldn't be swept away by the beautiful performances, the captivating stories, and the sheer artistry of it all? And of course, who wouldnā€™t be completely enraptured by those gorgeous tutus and dazzling costumes?

And speaking of dazzlingā€¦ let's talk shopping, my favorite topic after tutus of course! Can you imagine browsing through vintage fashion boutiques in 1912, uncovering little hidden treasures? It's truly a joy to imagine the little touches of whimsy in that era - imagine picking out a feather boa to wear over your little tulle skirt and pairing it with a delightful velvet fascinator with a dainty touch of pinkā€¦ absolutely delightful!

Even if you can't travel back in time to visit these wonderful places, thereā€™s nothing stopping you from experiencing the magic! Why not take inspiration from this time, add a little extra pink to your next dance outfit, and see your world become a bit more elegant and whimsical?
