#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse Into the World of 1912, Darlings!
Bonjour mes chères ballerinas! It's Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday trip into the past! Today, we're journeying all the way back to 12th November, 1912. Grab your fanciest pink tutus and your trusty feather boas, darlings, because we're headed for a time when tutus were at the height of their fashion!
My oh my, how I adore this era! The vibrant colours, the flowing silhouettes, the undeniable femininity! It's a time where ballet truly captured the hearts and minds of everyone, and tutus were the undisputed stars of the stage. Remember, we're talking a good twenty years before the introduction of the streamlined, modern, Tutu de Pointe, so picture this: Romantic ballet at its finest!
This week, my time machine has deposited me right in the heart of Paris, the undisputed capital of chic, of course! There’s simply no other city where you can find so much inspiration for your personal fashion – and no other place in the world where the tutu is so beloved! Oh, how I long to wander the boulevards in a confection of tulle and feathers, a vision of loveliness amongst the dashing men in their cravats and velvet coats.
It's a perfect day for a little fashion inspiration, too, my darlings! November 12th, 1912 was the date of the launch of Paulette, one of the leading Parisian couture magazines. It must have been a grand occasion! Now, if you'll pardon my extravagance, I just have to imagine myself as a guest at the opening gala! Imagine the opulence, the elegant ladies with their elaborate hats, the champagne, and...of course, tutuses! Who knows? Perhaps a pink tutu graced the pages of the very first edition of *Paulette magazine! Just imagine how fabulous that must have been!
Imagine how stunning a ballerina in her tulle skirt would have looked on that day! And how magical would a theatrical performance have been! This era saw the golden age of ballerinas, ladies with impeccable grace and style. Imagine the thrill of watching Isadora Duncan twirl across the stage, a beautiful, captivating vision! This is what my love of ballet and tutus truly stems from. There's just something magical about the ethereal elegance of a ballet tutu, it's simply timeless.
It wasn't all about theatrical shows and elaborate costume design either. For those wanting a slightly more casual and elegant approach, the ‘leg o' mutton’ sleeve, in fashionable and colourful fabrics, provided a touch of delicate beauty.
Back to my travel adventures in 1912, though! Today, the news headlines are filled with tales of European explorers' ventures. I must admit, a little part of me craves the adventure of a train journey through Europe myself, but there is so much to see, do and wear right here in Paris, that a grand tour will have to wait for now.
Before I whisk myself back to the 21st century and to my little corner of Derbyshire, a bit of advice, darlings, from your dearest pink-tutu-clad Emma: Always embrace the elegance of tutus. Be bold, be creative, and never hesitate to let your inner ballerina shine!
Until next #TutuTuesday, may your dance shoes be shining, your smiles be bright and your lives be filled with joy! Au revoir!
