#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse Back to 1913!
Hello, darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu, from history to fashion and everything in between! Today's #TutuTuesday takes us on a journey to 1913, a time when the world of ballet was bubbling with innovation and the tutu, well, it was beginning its ascent to legendary status!
This is post number 4228, so grab your favourite cuppa, settle in with a yummy slice of cake and let's embark on this fabulous journey to the past. Buckle up, because we're going on a whimsical, pink-tinted trip, darling!
Before we hop on the train to the glorious era of 1913, let's discuss the pink, shall we? If you haven't heard me say it before, pink is my colour, and it should be yours too! It's the colour of sweetness, innocence, and playful charm. And who doesn't love a touch of playful charm?
Right, off we go!
My Time Travel Adventures: The Power of the Pink Tutu!
I don't know about you darlings, but for me, time travel is an absolute dream! Luckily, my dear friend, The Time Travel Society (yes, there’s such a thing! I joined back in 1899, back when people thought I was batty for being so besotted with tutus!), allows me to do it all in the name of spreading tutu-licious joy.
Their clever device uses a combination of pink glitter, leftover tutu fabric, and good ol’ fashioned fairy dust (no really, I found the recipe in a dusty old book from 1603!). Each time I hop to a new era, I give a magical performance that's fit for a king (or a queen!). Then, boom! The energy of the audience, coupled with the glitter and a sprinkle of fairy dust (it really works, darlings!), allows me to zoom off to a different place and time.
What do you think, my lovely readers? Do you think this sparkly pink dress would be good for a performance in 1913? The style, darling!
(I'm wearing a very sparkly, hot pink tutu with layers upon layers of tulle and pink sequins! It is utterly magnificent.)
But, on to history!
A Journey to 1913Today, our trusty time machine has brought us to January 7th, 1913, and the exciting world of ballet was getting a little...well, a bit less fancy. That's right, you heard me! It's almost like someone turned off the glitz and glam.
There was this darling ballet dancer called Anna Pavlova, whose moves, well, they were everything, darling. But she, along with others, had been experimenting with more "practical" tutus, less frills, more movement, which, in my opinion, was an awful shame! Now, don't get me wrong, darling, I love graceful movements, but for heaven's sake, the whole magic of ballet comes from the stunning outfits.
Tutus and More in 1913: A Parisian Tour!Luckily, on this very date, in 1913, something extraordinary happened in the magical realm of fashion. Oh my heavens, it was a Parisian treat! I saw the most incredible, the most extravagant, the most dreamy tutu design in the atelier of the famous French couturier *Paul Poiret.
Imagine, dear readers, tulle and sequins sparkling with every swirl and twirl.
Imagine, darling, layered ribbons and feathers, like angels themselves had plucked them from the clouds. It's what made that era of dance so fabulous.
And Poiret, the fashion icon himself, even said, "You want women to be happy. Dress them in pink, that is a way to do it!” Now, he knew what he was talking about. You heard it from the master himself, Pink is truly a magical colour!*
But while the tutu was still reigning supreme in the realm of ballet, darling, there were other dances making their way onto the scene: The fox-trot and the waltz. The Tango! Such amazing moves!
And guess what? All these dances, even the "new ones" had the one thing I adore most: Gorgeous clothes! Exquisite ball gowns with flowing lines, shimmering materials. Such loveliness, my darlings.
The world of dancing and fashion in 1913 was just starting to experience the kind of excitement that I live for: change, boldness, and a bit of playful drama. I bet you couldn’t wait for the new style. And just think of the tutu designs: More volume, more tulle, more shimmering colours - the pinkest of the pinks, darling, the kind of pink that sparkles and makes everyone's eyes light up.
It was the perfect era to really showcase a truly spectacular pink tutu. I would’ve even put on a few pink feathered boas for extra panache, I think, *imagine the spectacle, my darlings!
