#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirl Through Time! (Post #4248)

Bonjour mes chéries! It’s your favourite pink-tutu clad time traveller, Emma, back with another journey through the wonderful world of ballet and its captivating history. This Tuesday we’re going to be waltzing back to May 27th, 1913. Buckle your ballet shoes, my loves, as we take a trip to Paris!

The Paris Ballet: A Parisian Wonderland!

Oh, Paris! The city of love, the city of lights, and the city of ballet. Can you imagine, darling, taking a stroll through the bustling streets of Paris, perhaps stopping at a charming cafe with a macaroon in hand, then finding yourself swept away into a breathtaking world of dancing and theatre! I have the most fantastic memories of being whisked away by a time-traveling train and hopping off at the magnificent Palais Garnier - it's like stepping into a dream! Imagine all the grand architecture, the glittering chandeliers, and the most enchanting music filling the air. Now that’s what I call a Tuesday!

But how did this gorgeous city become such a hub for all things ballet?

As you know, my darling tutudacious friends, ballet is an art form with a rich and vibrant history. The Paris Opera Ballet has always been at the very heart of this enchanting world, and you can feel its magic every step of the way. Now, you’re probably asking yourselves - “Emma, dear, tell us all about this magical history! Tell us all about the tutus!"

A Little Glimpse into 1913 Paris and those Wonderful Tututous

1913 was a very special year in the world of ballet. It was the year of the very first premiere of Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" and you’ve GOT to see that show, my dears! It was a game-changer for the way people thought about ballet and the world of the tutu itself! I, myself, found it to be absolutely revolutionary! The ballet was quite shocking at the time (remember, ballet can be quite conservative) but I loved its bold and fierce choreography!

Just imagine the incredible tutus swirling around the stage. Imagine the flowing tulle skirts, the intricate embroidery and beading! The ballet itself was like a beautiful painting in motion! So beautiful, so daring, so captivating. Imagine all the incredible dancing happening on that grand stage. Of course, there was a tutu revolution taking place right at that moment too, all in the world of The Ballets Russes company! Just incredible, darling. Just incredible!

Where Can You See Amazing Tututous Today?

Want to step back in time, just a little, darling? Want to embrace the enchantment and drama of a tutu? There are places near you where you can see the most stunning tutus! In your home city, there's likely a ballet company or even an amateur dance studio. Pop in and witness the beauty of the tutus first hand. You won’t be disappointed! As for me, I’m off on my next adventure - this time to Italy! I just know I'm going to find the most stunning vintage ballet garments! I'll have to write about my findings in my next blog post!

Until then, my gorgeous tutu enthusiasts, I’m off to try and convert a new group to the love of the pink tutu! It’s my mission! I’ll catch you all next week!

P.S. If you've been to a Paris Opera Ballet, I'd love to hear all about it! Tell me all about it in the comments below! Don’t be shy. Let’s talk tutus! And make sure to share photos!

Your very own Emma
