#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1913-09-09

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu-obsessed time traveller, ready to whisk you away to the glorious world of ballet, fashion, and… tutùs! This week, we're twirling back to September 9th, 1913. Now, before I get to all the wonderful ballet history tidbits for this date, you have to know: it was a rather dull day in my little time travel diary! There wasn't much going on in the world of ballet.

But fear not! A dull day for ballet doesn't mean it was a dull day for fashion. 1913 was a year of extravagant and elevated style, so let's dive right into it, shall we?

I've been all over the world this week, darlings, by train of course! Nothing beats a good old fashioned railway journey in my trusty tutu and my fabulous hatbox filled with the most divine frocks.

The Parisian fashion scene was buzzing! There was a positively electric atmosphere. You can almost smell the scent of Chanel No. 5 in the air (yes, Coco launched it this year!), the streets were a kaleidoscope of slinky silk dresses with cascading frills, bold hats adorned with feathers and veils, and, of course, tutu-esque tulle dancing on everything from lingerie to tea dresses!

The women looked magnificent! Oh, the romance of it all! So let's indulge in some of these exquisite styles:

Fashion Trends for 1913-09-09

Dresses: Imagine layers of softest silk in beautiful colours: lavender, lilac, blush pink! Oh, the drama of the full skirt! The gently cinched waistline accentuates those curves, and the slender shoulders are accentuated with a touch of delicate lace!

Tutus: The big ballerina trend was all about tulle and satin in a lavish, *flowy style with soft layers that gave such a graceful motion to their every step. Just the picture of delicate movement! Of course, a tulle tutu would never be complete without ribbons and bows.

Shoes: What a joy to see ankle boots gaining popularity - those delicate straps around the ankle! This is the era of a softness of design in shoes, perfect for dancing a foxtrot!

Accessories This year is all about hats! Big feathered pieces that just about touch the ground (oh, the Drama of it all!). The perfect touch? A pearl or gemstone brooch that sparkles just as you dance by!

Beauty: Everything about this era was all about the beauty of being feminine . From lipsticks in soft, warm shades, eyes accented by soft liner to beautifully shaped brows – effortless beauty, my dear, effortless beauty! The ladies of this era just knew how to make themselves look fabulous!

I wish I could just live here in this fabulous era, but alas, I must go on my next trip through time! But don't worry, darling, I will be back next Tuesday for another #TutuTuesday post. Remember, tutus can make the world a better place - a more fashionable place! And, in the meantime, why not have a go at a bit of ballet? I know I will! Keep it glamorous and I will see you next Tuesday.

Yours tutu-ly,

Emma

Post Script: This post marks the end of yet another week of adventures. It's time to refresh my costume box - there are several new items to be acquired in anticipation of my next ballet-inspired journey! Have you ever wanted to go to a ballet performance, but weren't sure if you were dressy enough? Fear not, darling! Any outfit that is elegant and classy is acceptable, it is all about how you carry yourself, a dash of confidence, and a heart full of ballet passion.

Don't Forget! This blog, and all of my time travel adventures, are funded by my ballet performances. I love to share my passion for the world of dance with you. I also love to watch some ballet shows and shopping for new tutus along the way.

It's important to me that every woman gets to experience the joy of a pink tutu. A tutu makes any occasion a tutu-ly special occasion, from a simple lunch with friends to the grandest event of the year. We can all be a little bit extra.

Do you have any suggestions on the ballet performances I should visit next? Leave me a comment on www.pink-tutu.com !
