Tutu Tuesday: #4299 - Back in Time!

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers! It's Emma here, and this Tuesday is extra special because it’s time travel Tuesday! This week I’ve hopped on a fabulous time-traveling train, landed in the past, and as usual I’m going to take you all with me! So grab your tutus and your teacups, darling, because we’re stepping back into 1914. Fancy that, 1914! Can you even imagine a time without the sparkling wonders that are online shopping?!

Okay, let’s rewind a little: I’m standing on the platform of the station at St. Pancras in London. I am wearing the most divine shade of blush pink – a very trendy hue back then too – and my go-to fluffy tutu, which feels wonderfully airy in this pre-air conditioning world.

This time period? Just buzzing with life, just as we are. The music halls, the theatres…oh, the theatre! I’ve already been to two fabulous ballets today. I even saw Anna Pavlova herself - talk about an iconic star, the embodiment of beauty and grace! Just the essence of tutu.

Now, let’s talk history, specifically, tutu history. While the ballerina costumes we know and love, these elegant, ethereal beauties - weren’t completely cemented in style yet, it’s still totally fascinating! Back then, there was more movement and variation in what dancers wore – from floor-length romantic tutus to longer skirts that ruffled and swayed with each whirl!

Of course, no time travel journey is complete without a shop-stop – or two, or three! This beautiful period gave us so much fashion inspiration, darling! Look, I’m already spotting gorgeous vintage stores to fuel my imagination! Think silk stockings, shimmering fabric and the most beautiful floral hats. The perfect pre-show accessory if I do say so myself.

Oh, I'm practically giddy! In the city today, a new ballet school, the Cecchetti Society, has just opened its doors. They offer private ballet lessons for ladies! My heart! Can you even imagine the gorgeous tutus, the pastel coloured tights, and graceful choreography that will be pouring out of this charming school? I’m definitely sneaking in for a peak!

Let's see, what else can we explore this year, 1914? Ooh! I nearly forgot! Tonight, there is a huge fundraising ballet event for war orphans! I've heard they have a gorgeous set - and, get this, they're selling these delicate little tutus with ribbons, like those lovely floral designs they wear on the ballet stage, to help raise money for the orphans! This just goes to show how tutus can not only *brighten up a stage, but bring hope to others. Just lovely! I think I’m getting myself one…it’s for a good cause, and let’s be honest, I’d look amazing wearing a stylish little tutu as I stroll through the London streets.

That’s all from this tutu traveler for this week, my loves! I’ll be posting another #TutuTuesday update next week about an amazing time travelling adventure you won’t want to miss! Until then, remember, wear a tutu with pride, be bold and daring, and don’t be afraid to add a touch of pink to the world!

Keep twirling!
