Tutu Tuesday: #4311 – A Glimpse Back to 1914!
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on a whimsical journey through time, all in the name of tutu history! Today we're taking a delightful train trip back to the 11th of August, 1914, and believe me, my dear readers, even with a world-war looming on the horizon, the ballet world was still alight with captivating creations and glamorous gowns!
As always, I’ve donned my finest pink tutu for our jaunt into the past – it's my little way of injecting some joyful femininity into whatever century I find myself in! I’m practically giddy with anticipation! Now, let’s get down to the details of our exciting journey!
I found myself stepping out of the bustling station at a charming town called … ah, hang on! You wouldn't believe it! It seems my time travel is getting a little mischievous this week. All I know is I'm in Europe, right at the heart of the ballet world! No matter! As long as there's dancing and fashion, I'm right in my element.
What’s Happening on 11th August 1914?
Well, dear reader, we are smack-dab in the middle of what will be a whirlwind of historical events. The world feels like it's teetering on a precipice – Germany just declared war on France! Everyone’s scrambling and trying to make sense of it all. But in the theatre world? Well, we all know dancers always find a way to move forward. Shows must go on!
So what would I be doing on a day like this in 1914? My darlings, let me tell you – I'd be at the Ballet Russe, of course! The brilliance of the ballet world is always radiating outwards! There's an absolute buzz about this company, darling – a touch of Parisian elegance coupled with that undeniable Russian artistry! Oh, if only we had our own little pink tutu company on the streets of London right now. Oh, imagine the sheer delight, the elegance of it all! A veritable flurry of pastel pinks sweeping across Covent Garden, a symphony of swirling skirts and tiny toes - what a sight that would be! But, darling, I’m not quite the entrepreneurial ballerina, at least not this week. Oh, my! The mere thought is almost making me weak at the knees. Oh dear! We mustn't lose sight of our trip down history lane!
Tutus of the Day
As always, the tutus themselves are the true stars of the show! The early 20th century saw a shift in styles with shorter, more athletic silhouettes. Imagine, if you will, these dazzling dancers taking to the stage, the fabric of their tutus shimmering under the stage lights! We’re not talking your typical stiff, fluffy ball gown tutu yet - oh, darling, there's so much to explore here, all in its infancy and on the cusp of so many magnificent evolutions! Just imagine a soft, silky tutu in the most exquisite pink imaginable, perfectly embodying both elegance and strength! The design's less about the "fluffy meringue" look of those classical tutus, and more about highlighting the form and flow of the dancer's body! Absolutely sensational, darling! The ballerina's limbs, elegant and slender, moving in graceful swirls, the way the fabric of her tutu, it moves and ripples with her! It’s an ethereal sight indeed!
Oh my dear readers, just as I think I’ve had my fill of fashion inspiration for the day, here we are! My train is arriving, carrying me back to our present moment. A truly glorious day indeed!
See you next Tuesday, darling! Keep those tutus twirling,
Emma
