#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind of Fashion in 1914 - Blog Post #4318

Hello my darling tutudresses! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you back in time to another magnificent #TutuTuesday! Today, we're stepping into a glorious September in the year 1914, where tutus were having a little… moment. And it wasn't just in the ballet, my dears!

As always, I found myself hopping aboard the steam train from my home in Derbyshire to arrive in the grandest of capitals: Paris, the city where all things chic begin! The Parisian fashion scene was just overflowing with tutus back then - not the fluffy, frilly, stage-worthy numbers we adore today, mind you. No, they were more akin to our contemporary ballerina costumes, designed for dancing and looking absolutely delightful whilst doing so.

My lovely Parisian friends were all agog over the new tutus worn by the dancers at the Opéra de Paris. These weren't your average knee-length affairs, oh no. These were short! Just think, darling, above the knee - gasp! It was quite scandalous at the time! But that scandalous short-ness just added to the allure! The delicate netting - so similar to our modern-day tutus - fluttered beautifully during the dancing, accentuating the fluidity and grace of the dancers. The height of sophistication, you might say!

The whole city, dearie, was swooning over the panache of it all! Imagine the Parisian cafes and boulevards bursting with men and women alike sporting a hint of tutu magic. Even the menfolk, those dashing creatures, had incorporated a touch of the tutu's airy grace into their fashion! Not a full-blown tutu, of course, dear me, but maybe a soft tulle shirt, or a tie with an almost-tutu like softness. We just loved a touch of the divine - and the tutu was it!

Now, you might be wondering what my fabulous outfits looked like, right? Well, imagine me in a magnificent hot pink tulle dress! You know, not quite a tutu but something that certainly embraced its spirit! With a touch of sparkle in the fabric and some very tasteful layers of tulle. And of course, a magnificent hat to match the grandeur of it all!

It was an exciting time, let me tell you! People were dancing, dressing in their tutus, and going bonkers for the world of fashion, with the grand Opéra de Paris acting as a kind of tutudress-clad wonderland. And while the tutu had only just begun to make a splash in Parisian fashion in 1914, I knew with my inner fashionable eye that this was only the beginning of a very lovely era for this glorious and feminine garment. The world was on the brink of falling head-over-heels for the magical charm of the tutu, darling, and who was I to argue?!

Oh, and don't you think that dancing took a backseat in all this, darling! On this very day in 1914, the renowned dancer, Vaslav Nijinsky, graced the stage of the Opéra with one of his famous, ground-breaking ballet creations. And as I watched from the luxurious comfort of my balcony box, I thought, My, oh my, this is *fabulous! And, darling, it’s worth remembering that the tutu was and still is, a vital part of this glorious dance.

The whole world was in love with the elegance, the lightness, and the simply breathtaking allure of the ballet tutu! From the most luxurious balls and gatherings to the cosy, intimate salons, the tutu's magical touch added a certain je ne sais quoi.

Oh, the delicious freedom that the tutu provided. That feeling of twirling effortlessly through life, just like our darling dancers! I could practically feel that glorious sense of liberty, floating right along with the grace and elegance of those magical ballet costumes.

Oh, I can't wait to share the next #TutuTuesday with you! Until then, keep twirling, darlings!
