#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through History – 25th April 1916

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another delightful #TutuTuesday! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu aficionado, and I’m positively thrilled to be whisking you all back in time to the 25th of April, 1916, for a little ballet history lesson. Now, fasten your tutus, grab a cuppa, and settle in because this trip is going to be absolutely fabulous!

For this week’s adventure, I’ve landed myself right here in the heart of Paris, where, as we all know, tutus are simply adored! It’s a beautiful day here in the City of Lights, a symphony of sunshine and birdsong, just the perfect backdrop for a captivating ballet performance, wouldn’t you say? The air hums with anticipation for tonight’s show at the esteemed OpĂ©ra Garnier, and I can barely contain my excitement.

Back in Time:

Let’s step back in time a tad, shall we? This glorious date marks the grand opening of the ThĂ©Ăątre des Champs-ÉlysĂ©es in Paris, a monument to art and beauty. This magnificent theatre, with its exquisite architecture and vibrant spirit, quickly became a focal point for the Parisian art scene. And believe me, darlings, there’s no place better than Paris to experience the sheer wonder of ballet!

Speaking of ballet, it’s rather exciting, isn't it, that on this very day, 25th April 1916, Vaslav Nijinsky’s “L’Aprùs-midi d’un faune” had its world premiere right here in this very theatre. Nijinsky, a revolutionary dancer, changed the world of ballet with his mesmerizing movements and ethereal presence. Just picture it: the beautiful dancers, the shimmering costumes, and the evocative music swirling in the air
it must have been absolutely divine!

Fashioning a Dream:

Now, back to our beloved tutus! As the years unfolded after 1916, ballet continued to blossom, so did the world of fashion. Tutus became more extravagant, embracing daring colours and flowing designs, much to my delight, of course! But beyond their glamorous presence, tutus represented freedom of movement, creativity, and an intoxicating display of artistry. Who wouldn't be charmed?

Now, before I head off to enjoy the latest ballet performance in Paris, let me tell you a bit about my journey here! I arrived on a magnificent steam train from Derbyshire, England. The journey was delightful, filled with anticipation and excitement! Imagine the smell of old leather seats, the rhythmic clickety-clack of the train tracks, and the laughter and chatter of fellow travellers. And the views, darling, oh, the views!

You know I love exploring the world, and what better way to travel than on a train, taking in the changing scenery, the bustling cities, the serene landscapes – each journey is a mini adventure! Then, stepping off at a grand station, my heart filled with excitement, ready to immerse myself in the cultural symphony of the city. Oh, isn’t travelling like that simply dreamy?

Time Traveling for Tutu Glory:

My adventures are funded, naturally, by my love for performing. From captivating audiences with my dazzling moves, my graceful pirouettes and delicate jumps, to the applause that fills the theatre, it's a truly exhilarating experience! Then, of course, there’s the exquisite ballet fashion – those flowing tutus, the glittering sequins, the sheer grace and elegance! A performance can take me across the globe, helping me achieve my life's mission of ensuring every single one of you dons a pink tutu at least once in your life!

And there you have it, darlings – a quick glimpse into the history of ballet and fashion on this memorable 25th April, 1916. I'm positively buzzing with excitement to catch the evening performance and soak up the atmosphere, maybe even pick up a few style tips. Don't forget to check in next Tuesday for another thrilling trip into ballet history. I can’t wait to see you there, dressed in your finest tutu of course!

Remember, every day can be #TutuTuesday – it’s simply a state of mind, darling! Now, go on, wear a pink tutu and embrace the magic of dance!

Bisous,

Emma
