#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past (and a Little Pink!)
Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tulle, sparkles and fabulousness! It’s me, your resident tutu-enthusiast, Emma, bringing you a brand new edition of #TutuTuesday. This week, we’re time-traveling back to the 18th of July, 1916, for a glimpse into the history of tutus!
(This is blog post number 4412, just a little fact for you.)
This time around, we’re taking a little train trip to the heart of the ballet world – Paris! Paris is brimming with beautiful theatres, glorious shops and all things beautiful and chic – just the kind of places that a girl with a penchant for tutus can't resist. Imagine a little me, wearing a gorgeous pink tutu, my face flushed with excitement, leaping off the train platform. I mean, what’s more fabulous than travelling by train with a tutu in tow?!
Before we dive into the tutus themselves, let's talk about what was going on in the world on the 18th of July 1916. This was a momentous date in history! Right here in Paris, the French government announced their new National Day of Remembrance for soldiers. The ceremony at the Invalides (where Napoleon’s tomb stands), filled with music and emotion, captured the hearts of Parisians – and hopefully, mine, too. Even during wartime, people still love to enjoy beautiful art forms, like ballet, which was flourishing in Paris, believe you me.
But back to our tutus, my darlings! Let's chat about the era! Now, in 1916, tutus were already evolving from the traditional knee-length romantic tutu we know and love. Imagine swirling layers of soft tulle ending at the calves, it’s almost a mid-length! And the colours?! Just a feast for the eyes – delicate pastel shades like dreamy pinks, baby blues, and soft yellows were all the rage. These weren't your average "every-day" tutus, though. Back then, they were all handmade with meticulous care, requiring skilled craftspeople and intricate techniques. I can just imagine how magical they would look on stage – like swirling clouds of colour under the soft lighting of a Parisian theatre!
Imagine, dancing gracefully onstage, a single spotlight focusing on your graceful leaps, a swirl of fabric capturing every elegant movement – oh how I long to time travel and experience the world of ballet in that glorious time! (Of course, all dressed in the pinkest and most fabulous tutu imaginable!). But, for now, we must stick to studying the historical tidbits of fashion, even though it's all I can do to resist the urge to take my own trusty pink tutu for a spin through the grand streets of Paris!
Now, as a good old-fashioned English girl, I have to say – I’m already picturing myself having a grand time at the Moulin Rouge, with all its elegance and beauty, it was practically the epicenter of entertainment. Imagine the bustling city streets, the shimmering lights, and the iconic red windmill!
And the clothes? Oh, the fashion, darling! Think corseted waists, delicate lace and flowing dresses, complete with those elegant, wide-brimmed hats. Imagine those luxurious fabrics! Silk, velvet, satin – a true dream come true for any fashionista. You wouldn’t catch me without my signature pink tutu though, darling! There's just something so whimsical and playful about the tutus, you can’t deny the magic.
So there you have it, darlings! A little glimpse into the history of tutus on July 18, 1916. Let's keep those pink tutus flying, shall we? After all, wearing a pink tutu is the most fabulous thing in the world, so go forth and embrace the pink! I'll see you all next week for another exciting adventure in the world of tutus!
And remember, dear readers – keep spreading the pink love! If you’re keen for more ballet shenanigans, head over to Pink-Tutu.com, check out our past blog posts and be sure to send me your own tutu stories. Who knows, maybe we’ll even feature you on the next blog!
