Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through History - 14th November 1916 (Post 4429!)

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, back for another #TutuTuesday. I'm so excited to take you on a journey through time today! Let's twirl back to November 14th, 1916, and discover what the world of ballet was up to in the middle of the First World War. Now, you might be thinking "tutus during wartime? Wasn't there, like, a major world conflict going on?". But, darling, the beauty and grace of ballet has always been a source of inspiration and escapism, even amidst challenging times.

Remember my motto? Pink Tutus for Everyone! So, my latest trip through time took me straight to the heart of the Parisian dance scene. Oh la la, can you imagine, all that fabulous Parisian fashion! The streets of Paris were buzzing with activity - not just the war effort but a whole load of beautiful people, all the stylish ladies wearing elegant dresses, and everyone was a bit more daring with their fashion after the bold use of colours and fabric in the war years. The perfect backdrop for my very own pink tutu. After all, who doesn't love a little colour amidst the grey?

1916, in the world of ballet, saw some truly magnificent performances. I caught a dazzling performance of 'La Fille Mal Gardée' at the Paris Opera House. It was so elegant - a lovely reminder of the lightness of life even when it's challenging out in the world.

Remember darling, I have the greatest life. One day I’m performing in Covent Garden, the next I'm rocking the Moulin Rouge.

The Opera Garnier was abuzz with energy; they had a grand gala planned with the most exciting repertoire, I'm telling you, I'm dying to go see that.

Anyway, back to 1916, and while the war loomed, there was no stopping the passion for dance. The ballets I saw were full of spirit and excitement. Just imagine those beautiful ballerinas in their white tutus, those stunning sets and the passionate dancers... they were defying those challenging times, using the magic of dance to spread joy and artistry. And the costumes were even more beautiful then – layers and layers of tulle and silk!

Oh, and you know I love shopping! On a recent trip to Paris, I found myself in the most exquisite shop full of tulle and satin. A dancer's paradise! My pink tutu would not be out of place in their displays.

While we were reminiscing about the beauty of 1916, we can't forget those incredible dance pieces. I can't even choose my favorite. But the energy that the ballerinas put into the performance, and the incredible way that the dancers moved – there are no words! So uplifting, darling. It’s hard not to fall in love with ballet!

I know some people say tutu's are out of fashion... well, they're WRONG! My love of the tutu has given me the opportunity to meet so many fascinating people. It’s been my ticket to exciting trips and wonderful experiences – who knew there were so many dance studios out there just waiting to welcome you! So if you're ever feeling adventurous, darling, wear your best tutu, get your train ticket booked, and get yourself to the nearest ballet studio!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s trip through time. Remember to catch up with me at www.pink-tutu.com - you can also find me on the ballet streets and the theatre, looking fabulous!

Until next time, twirl away!

Lots of love,

Emma
