#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Glimpse into 1917! 🩰
Hello darlings! Emma here, back again for another whirlwind journey through the fascinating history of the tutu, my beloved friend and fashion icon!
This week we're taking a little trip back in time, specifically to March 27th, 1917! It feels quite a leap from my usual Derbyshire haven, but the allure of exploring past ballet trends is irresistible! Remember, this is post #4448 on my ever-growing pink-tutu.com website. Pop by every Tuesday to join me for a peek into tutu history, my darlings!
Before we dive in, let's imagine our outfits for this historical adventure! A chic, ruffled pink tutu, of course! Think flowing chiffon, layered frills, and a touch of sparkle - the epitome of grace and elegance, just like a ballerina! Maybe a sweet, floral crown to complete the look?
Now, onto 1917, my dears! The world was a very different place, with war clouds hanging heavy over Europe. Yet, despite the turmoil, the ballet was flourishing! In the glittering Parisian salons and opulent London theatres, graceful figures danced in tutus, creating ethereal and captivating moments.
1917 was a year of change and upheaval in fashion. The war had a definite influence on what people were wearing, but you still saw the charm and grandeur of the era on the stage! Skirts were longer, a bit more modest, you could say, with a distinct flapper vibe on the rise. The iconic bob haircut started making an appearance! It was such a rebellious move at the time, defying all expectations of feminine elegance! The very symbol of change!
Now, back to the tutu. While 1917 saw the silhouette shift for everyday wear, on the ballet stage, the tutu still retained its iconic presence, but the focus was definitely on elegant, streamlined lines. Forget the frilly, over-the-top extravaganza we sometimes see these days, because these ballerinas were all about simple elegance! Imagine sleek lines, beautiful flowing tulle and an accent of gorgeous, delicate detail.
Now, let’s go on a little tour. We might find ourselves at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. I'm just picturing the rich, ornate interior, the chandeliers casting their magic over the stage. The atmosphere, the air, is filled with passion, raw talent, and the sound of exquisite artistry! They would be performing the legendary “Giselle,” which, believe it or not, was already a big classic back then! We can imagine a sweet ballerina in a flowing white tutu with soft, romantic choreography! Imagine those ethereal movements and how they make you just melt with pure emotion!
Now let’s cross the Channel to England, shall we? There's a magical feeling in London that even I, with my time travel tendencies, can't quite describe. The theatres buzzed with energy! The Royal Opera House was at its peak, filled with stars dancing their hearts out, and of course, sporting the very epitome of the refined, elegant, yet still romantic tutu style of 1917! And perhaps I'd catch a performance of the dazzling "Sleeping Beauty", another show that still charms the world today! Just think of those ballerinas swirling in their pink tulle tutus, embodying grace, beauty and a fairytale atmosphere that would transport anyone to a realm of dreams!
You know, it's absolutely incredible how these beautiful pieces of clothing, those magnificent, airy, ethereal tutus, connect us all, across the centuries! And the incredible stories they whisper!
Here’s the beauty of the tutu! It can change with the times! Every decade adds its unique personality to the look! That's what makes them such an incredibly fascinating symbol of both tradition and progress!
Remember my lovelies, embrace the allure of a fabulous tutu! It is not just a costume; it’s a story woven in tulle and sparkle, waiting for you to wear and write your own chapter in this eternal ballet of history!
I'll be back next week for more exciting Tutu Tuesday explorations. In the meantime, you know what to do: embrace that inner ballerina and let your creativity soar. Wear pink, my dears. Always wear pink. Especially in a fabulous tutu! 🩰
Love,
Emma xx
