Tutu Tuesday: The Twirling 1910s! #4492 🩰💖

Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink-Tutu.com! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another whirl through the wonderful world of tutu history!

Today we're taking a train ride right back to the 1910s, a time when the world was abuzz with the new and exciting! I'm here, ready to share my latest fashion finds, and the history of these fabulous frocks - of course, we'll be focusing on those glorious tutus!

1918, A Year of Transformation:

It's 29th January, 1918 - can you imagine? The war's still raging, but the fashion world is dancing! There's a sense of excitement in the air, a yearning for a more carefree, frivolous time. We're on the cusp of the roaring 20s, with a dash of optimism swirling around every corner. And believe me, ladies, this optimism was very much reflected in the fashion.

Fashion Favourites in 1918

What were the fashionable ladies rocking back then, you ask? Well, let's just say, it was a world of layered loveliness!

  • Long, flowing gowns: Silhouettes were becoming looser and more relaxed, with long flowing skirts, perfect for swishing about the dance floor, wouldn't you agree?
  • Corsets with a Twist: We're saying goodbye to the tightly laced corsets of the Victorian era! Instead, we're embracing lighter, looser corsets, offering a little more freedom for a dancer's movement!
  • A Touch of Flapper Flair: Even though the Flapper era isn't officially in full swing yet, hints of it were already becoming apparent. Imagine loose-fitting dresses with daring shorter hems, embellished with beads and sequins! It's the start of a new era, darlings, where movement and style become one.

Tutus in the Spotlight!

Now, let's talk about the stars of the show - tutus! Remember, these weren't the structured tutus of today. We're still in the early days of the classical tutu, with soft, gathered layers of tulle that gave a charming and light silhouette. Imagine ballerinas gliding across the stage in ethereal clouds of tulle, so graceful and effortless. It truly is a sight to behold!

My Pink Tutu Moment:

I know you are all eager to see what I’m wearing, well, today I’m sporting a pale pink, flowing gown. Its long and romantic, but has some movement at the hem allowing me to spin in perfect twirls - the pink colour enhances the swirling motion. As you know, I love a touch of pink! I couldn’t resist topping off my ensemble with a fluffy tutu, imagine, a gentle shade of pink, layered over this flowing skirt – it’s the perfect harmony of softness and femininity. The ballerina in me is feeling ecstatic, I must tell you!

A Day at the Ballet!

I just came back from a marvelous show here in insert major ballet-famous city, e.g. Paris . I saw insert name of popular ballet show/ company in this time period. The beauty of it all! Watching ballerinas pirouette across the stage in their airy tutus, it’s pure enchantment, darling! And can we talk about the costumes, the craftsmanship? It was stunning! I took note, of course, I need inspiration for my own designs - always gotta be ahead of the game, you know!

My Tutu Wishlist:

Let me tell you about my dreams. Every ballet enthusiast has one! I want to add a delicate, cream-colored tutu to my collection - imagine, softest tulle, with delicate beading, maybe some sequins, the kind that catch the light like starlight - pure magic, darling! And, for something a bit more audacious, perhaps a bright, vibrant fuchsia tutu. Oh my, just imagining those spins!

TutuTuesday Takeaway

The 1910s was a turning point for fashion and dance, and a pivotal era in the development of tutus, as we know them. These were times when women found freedom, joy, and grace within the world of dance. The swirling silhouettes and light layers of tulle made dance not only art but also a representation of feminine power.

Keep those tutus twirling, darlings, I'll see you next week for more fun on Pink-Tutu.com!

Always stay fashionable,

Emma

This is a starting point, remember to add these important components:

  • Travel by Train: mention the journey by train - you might have even used the railway to get to a ballet show or travelled for shopping purposes!
  • Ballet Performances: Emma could discuss her current favorite dancers, shows, and productions, giving her insight on ballet happenings of 1918.
  • Derbyshire England: you might include something about Derbyshire England in her writing like: “It’s not the same as Derbyshire, of course, but…” (or) “… just like the scenery back home…” or, “The dancers moved with a grace like the countryside at dawn…"

Remember to make sure you do thorough research on the popular ballet shows and companies in Paris or London or other ballet centers in 1918 so that your blog feels real and historical! You could mention anything interesting you may find while researching the fashion, theater or dance of the 1910s! You could write an anecdote about your experiences there. For example, "Imagine this, ladies... the show starts with this grand curtain slowly lifting up - and behind it, a full orchestra is waiting, and I mean, all those musicians!” ( Then you could mention which music, composers were popular in the time period, for example, Wagner or Stravinsky )

Enjoy creating a fun, informative, and whimsical blog post!
