#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1918-03-19!

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to my blog, Pink-Tutu.com. This is #TutuTuesday, Blog Post Number 4499 - ahem - I’ve been doing this for a long time, but it never gets old! Today, let’s travel back in time together to a special date - 1918-03-19, the date we’re looking at for this #TutuTuesday blog post. I'm in London, darling! The best place to get your tutu fix, and a true haven for the fashionable ballet-obsessed like me. Now, off to the theatre!

Where Do Our Ballet Tutus Take Us Today?

On this particular 19th of March, just as a fabulous pink tutu would bring joy to the heart, so too did another bit of delightful news: “The Stars and Stripes Forever” was officially made the National March of the United States. Talk about celebrating a love for life and a good old fashioned, fun musical time! You can't possibly tell me those Americans don’t have an understanding of good times! I bet they love a good pas de bourrée, and they know how to throw a party - wouldn’t it be divine to watch them enjoy a dance at the Metropolitan Opera ? I am practically bouncing with excitement at the very idea, darling! It truly is the best form of entertainment ever!

Fashion, Fabrics and Freedom:

Now, let's get down to the details. Think of this date, 1918-03-19, and picture what fashion was all about! Imagine what kind of outfits might have been dancing about in theatres and ballets. A beautiful dress, so free, so liberating - but all that fashion and excitement would not be possible without the materials, the fabric! For those of us with an appreciation for the beautiful, tulle was quite the thing back then. It just felt right! A simple net-like material so incredibly lightweight, perfect for catching the dance and creating that sense of lightness and airiness on stage - it was practically magic, darling! But of course, this material came from other sources, so if we are going to understand the real tutu story, we must talk about silk and cotton! Those were the foundation - silk giving it that glamorous, luxury look - and cotton giving it the strength and durability to move and swirl, to accompany the beautiful movement of dancers' legs! Such delicate dance, like the gentle flow of silk! We have so much to be thankful for with the development of fabrics, it truly has revolutionized everything.

From Stage to Street:

Did you know there’s a strong link between fashion in general and dance! This goes beyond just looking good, but what I love most, is the way ballet style finds it's way into all the mainstream, modern trends - think of ballet flats, oh they are so beautiful - perfect for a walk to the Covent Garden Market. There’s always so much wonderful food there, with so much inspiration for my ballet creations - maybe I can incorporate some food themes into my tutu design. Who wouldn't adore a tutu made of raspberries, the colors!

I adore shopping - wouldn’t you love to have an amazing fashion-filled time together, darling? Imagine taking the afternoon, stepping out in a beautiful, frilly pink tutu - imagine it with me - we can browse all the lovely new collections! My Pink-Tutu.com shopping list will have you waltzing in elegance, looking simply divine. Let’s add the ultimate in style to our day and find a vintage costume for inspiration!

My #TutuTuesday Travels:

Here is the true secret about being a #TutuTuesday Blogger, darling - I can travel through time! This time, a nice relaxing ride on the train - my favorite method of getting about - right past Derby Station, a very famous area in my home town of Derbyshire. Oh, to be on those trains, smelling the tea and biscuits... Just thinking about those scenes make me want to twirl around a ballroom in an amazing silk-and-tulle dress. Imagine, the trains, the stations, and all that wonderful atmosphere, such magic. Then, the trains take me all around London and then onward for my next show! My traveling has me a little excited to think of some special themed outfits for the blog, and a brand-new series based on my journey to the theatre. What will my next #TutuTuesday Blog Post feature, my lovely readers? Maybe I'll get some pictures taken around London, near some lovely train stations and ballet studios - all you'll need is that special touch - a pink tutu of course, but, which pink tutu? Oh, how I simply love London, it’s truly a city for dancing and being elegant - I think the entire town knows how to dance like Balanchine himself. If there was any city that knew how to twirl, I am quite sure it’s this amazing, dazzling place - London - I must always make sure to give London all the credit and a very generous bow.

I love traveling, my readers, and I hope I have convinced you to get on a train, wear your best outfit, a frilly pink tutu or maybe a new gown. Then, simply go and dance - for me - darling, because you can truly, beautifully express your inner self - no matter how much of a Balanchine expert you may be! That’s exactly how we must think, like this 19th March day, let’s express our inner excitement, get up and celebrate - it’s going to be another fantastic week. What does your dance life have in store, darlings?

Until next Tuesday, keep your toes pointed, hearts full, and wear a fabulous, sparkly, pink tutu! Stay positive! It’s always tutu-licious!
