#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through 1918! (Post #4510)
Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another #TutuTuesday to whisk you away to a fabulous bygone era! Today we're swirling back to June 4th, 1918, a date full of exciting history and, of course, fabulous fashions!
Paris, Oh La La!
My current stop is none other than the City of Lights itself โ Paris! You know how much I love Parisian style โ those elegant lines, the whimsical colours, the sheer flair for the dramatic! I've been flitting about, soaking up the Parisian sunshine, enjoying some delightful picnics in the Tuileries Garden (my current obsession โ scones with clotted cream! So divine!). But my real love here is the ballet! Parisian ballet is something else, my darlings. So graceful, so sophisticated! Oh, to have twirled across that hallowed stage!
Tutu Talk: A Story in Stitches
Speaking of tutus, we must have a chat about what our fashion fairies were whipping up in 1918! Imagine, my lovelies, if you will, a world where tutus weren't just for the ballet stage! Yes, my dears, 1918 saw the tutu โ now sometimes called the "tutu dress" - step out into the world of fashion! This was the era of the shorter, fuller skirt - just like a ballerinaโs tutu, donโt you know! It gave the skirt that whimsical, almost floating look. The designers of the day were all about showcasing feminine charm, a sense of freedom and light movement โ a vision that my pink tutu heart loves!
And speaking of movement โ just think about the joy of dancing a waltz in a flowing, tiered tutu dress! Picture yourself at a summer ball in 1918: sunbeams dappling through a lush garden, the air alive with musicโฆ And you, in a divine tutu dress (and, of course, the perfect shade of pink, natch), gliding around, twirling and twirling and simply having the time of your life!
The Dance of History
Let's chat about the real-life history happening in 1918. The world was, sadly, in the throes of the Great War, but despite the challenging times, life carried on. There was a yearning for beauty and joy, and fashion reflected that. And what better way to feel those emotions than by adding a touch of tulle to your ensemble! Even in times of conflict, a dash of tulle can truly turn a day around. Just sayin'.
Pink, My Love, Pink!
1918 had a vibrant palette โ rich reds, blues, and the glorious shades of pink! A love for colour was bubbling over, and with this being the dawn of a new decade (the Roaring Twenties โ just wait and see!) this sense of joy was only going to expand! So ladies, let's carry on this tradition! Pink is the colour of femininity, of confidence, and โ most importantly โ fun! So go on, indulge your inner pink-loving ballerina! Life is a dance, and pink is your perfect partner!
To My Darling Tutus, My Bloggers, My World!
Oh my lovelies, I can't wait for you all to join me on this exciting journey! Next week, we'll be taking a trip to a truly iconic moment in tutu history (and we'll also be trying the most exquisite French macarons - stay tuned!), and until then, may all your dance moves be filled with grace and beauty, and may every day be sprinkled with pink!
Love always, Emma
(PS, if you're ever in Derbyshire, England - my lovely home town - stop by for a chat and a scone! Or maybe even a ballet performance! My Tutu Tuesdays all started right here! )
