Tutu Tuesday: A Little Dance Back to 1918! 🩰💖

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! It's Emma here, back with you for another #TutuTuesday adventure in Ballet Tutu History! Today's journey takes us all the way back to September 3rd, 1918, just a year shy of the end of the Great War.

A Train Journey of Time 🚂

Remember that little trip I had last week? It was quite a whirlwind with that Victorian era! Well, I’ve hopped onto another train for a new destination. This time I'm wandering about Paris, the world's ballet capital! (Although London, my hometown of Derbyshire, is quickly catching up.) This beautiful city is practically bubbling over with excitement, as if the war never touched it! Fashion houses are brimming with beautiful new styles. It's just what a girl needs after that gloomy war period!

1918 Fashion: Where the Modern Begins 💃🏻

Did you know that in 1918, there was a huge fashion shift, all thanks to our beautiful wartime heroines, the suffragettes? Imagine that! Those brilliant women have managed to break down walls both physically and in the style department! Gone are those massive, cumbersome skirts and heavy corsets that made it hard to dance (can you imagine?). They’ve replaced them with looser, more comfortable clothes with shorter, practical hems, making a whole lot more movement!

That's why 1918 was such a game changer! Suddenly, the clothes are flowing, light, and practical, perfectly suited to a ballet performance.

Dance Moves and New Fabrics: A Beautiful Symphony of Innovation 🧵✨

Speaking of ballet performances, can I tell you about these AMAZING fabrics! I popped into a store just down the street and stumbled upon a treasure trove of lovely light silks and cotton that just melt and move when you wear them. These incredible new fabrics - all lightweight and shimmery - are being used by the brilliant costumiers here! We’re now seeing incredible things happen onstage, all thanks to this new wave of materials! It’s like magic! ✨

The Ballerina's Delight: Tutus and Elegance 👑

And the best part? They’re putting these beautiful new materials onto even more spectacular costumes. Let's be real here - it’s the tutus, isn’t it? The star of the show! Paris is absolutely swooning for tutus! They are simply breathtakingly elegant and elegant, and those fluffy tiers and the twirling. Oh my gosh, the twirling is exquisite! (Of course, it's an unspoken law, I'll be rocking a pink tutu to this Parisian party, you can't catch me wearing any other colour.) 💖

Let’s Get Real, 1918 Was About More than just a Pretty Dress.

Don’t get me wrong, the changes in clothing are big and exciting, but the war changed how people saw the world, and I saw that reflected in the ballet shows too. People are craving beauty, love, and hope. Those wartime dances, full of spirit and bravery, are captivating the hearts and souls of everyone in the city. You see it in every step and twirl! 🩰

I’m going to try and catch the famous "La Boutique Fantastique” show - that music! Pure magic, everyone tells me. 🎵 And I will definitely try my best to blend into a sea of gorgeous dancers and stunning Parisian ladies, hoping to find the perfect tutu. 💖 Oh my gosh, my darlings! Do I have a feeling it will be pink!? 😜
