#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time - 1918-12-03

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to another Tuesday, another tutu-tastic journey through ballet history on www.pink-tutu.com! I'm your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing, time-traveling blogger, Emma, ready to take you on another fabulous trip. Today, we're swirling back to December 3rd, 1918! Can you believe it's already post #4536?! Time just flies when you're having a fabulous time, twirling in tutus and exploring ballet's rich past!

Now, buckle up my dears, 'cause today's a rather momentous one. Why? Because we're going to be stepping right into the midst of the aftermath of World War I! And you know what that means... peace! A time for celebrations, a time to dance with joyful hearts! I'm not saying that there weren't struggles still happening, but the world had a newfound breath of hope, and there's nothing more celebratory than a beautifully choreographed ballet!

(Quick sidebar... Did I mention that I LOVE travelling by train?! Especially in 1918. Something about the elegance of the carriages, the vintage posters, the swishing dresses... It makes me want to just dance through the aisles, don't you think? 😉 )

Anyways, let's hop right back to the Paris Opera House in 1918. Imagine: the scent of freshly-pressed silk, the golden light filtering through stained glass windows, and the anticipation buzzing in the air! Can you picture it, my dears? The grandness, the artistry... the Tutus! Now, the tutus back then were, dare I say, a little less frilly than our contemporary creations. A bit more… elegant, structured, sophisticated, you know? Think long lines, delicate tulle, and a touch of Victorian lace for that extra touch of drama!

Today, on December 3rd, 1918, we're experiencing a momentous performance - "La Boutique Fantasque." This delightful ballet by Léonide Massine takes us on a charming trip to a toy shop, with the most enchanting little ballerina doll leading the show! It's a ballet full of grace, whimsicality, and... dare I say it... romance! This ballet definitely embodies the light-hearted optimism that was blossoming after the war. A breath of fresh air, a touch of innocence in a world craving peace.

But even though the tutus were a little more refined, they were no less mesmerizing. A vision of swirling silk, a kaleidoscope of delicate movement... A masterpiece in themselves. After all, my dears, the magic of the tutu transcends time.

(Speaking of time, my latest trip brought me to a fabulous little boutique near the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. It was just bursting with exquisite fabric - silk, velvet, lace... I'm already sketching my latest design. Imagine a flowing tutu with tiers of silk and delicate tulle, adorned with a constellation of tiny sequins. Ooh la la!)

But you know me, I can't just leave you without a bit of a fashion tip for the day! Let's bring some of the elegant 1918 style into our modern wardrobes. For your #TutuTuesday look, imagine a pencil skirt, or perhaps a beautiful midi dress, paired with a touch of shimmery tulle! Think subtle shimmer, delicate fabrics, and a sprinkle of vintage glamour!

My dearest dancers, that brings us to the end of our trip through time for this #TutuTuesday. Remember, embrace your inner ballerina, don your favourite tutus, and dance your way through life!

Until next time, darlings, let your joy ripple like a graceful ballerina twirling across the stage. Don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com for more historical inspiration! And of course, don't forget to tell me about your favourite ballerina looks in the comments below! 💖
