#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! - Post #4547 - February 18th, 1919

Bonjour mes chéries! Emma here, back again for another Tuesday filled with twirls and tales of tutu-rific times! This week we’re taking a grand journey back to the year 1919, where the world was recovering from the Great War and a certain flapper craze was taking the world by storm!

Before we dive into the delights of 1919, a quick announcement! I just finished a delightful performance in the beautiful Parisian Opera House! Seeing the Eiffel Tower glitter like a thousand diamonds in the night sky always gives me the most wonderful inspiration for my pink tutu adventures. It’s hard to top that feeling of exhilaration, my darlings, especially when you're swirling around in a dazzling pink creation! Speaking of inspiration, today’s Tutu Tuesday post is a little different. Instead of being a traditional history of tutus, I wanted to bring you a slice of history in a more engaging way. Imagine being a ballerina in 1919! Imagine that you could walk around in a graceful tutu, and how absolutely thrilling that must have been. The tutu was considered the pinnacle of chic, just as the sleekest dress and highest-heeled shoes are now. Oh, if only you could time travel, my dears, to witness this marvelous moment in fashion history!

Now, back to our journey back in time. The year is 1919. Just a year ago, the world was at war. The first "Talkie" films were appearing, bringing moving pictures to life with sound, but dance remained a visual treat. The ladies loved it! Just like now, dancing was seen as an artistic expression, and a beautiful escape from the real world. Now, imagine a 1919 ballerina standing center stage, her pink tutu swirling around her ankles, and her eyes sparkling with passion. A dance of elegant steps and mesmerizing spins, a beautiful ballet that took everyone's breath away. It’s almost like being in a fairytale, isn't it?

I think a 1919 ballerina would adore my blog, with its delicate details and glamorous insights into tutu history. You know what else they’d adore? The fashion trends! And this is where things get really interesting! In 1919, fashion was influenced by the Great War. For example, some of you may be familiar with the popular "Boyish" style - clothes were getting more practical and comfortable for the working ladies who took up the roles of men during wartime. The most popular colour at this time? Black! Now, this might be a little bit of a shock, darling, as you know my absolute adoration for the colour pink. But there you have it. In the midst of the aftermath of the Great War, the colours of life were a little more muted. The only colour that truly shined were those vibrant fabrics in ballet dresses!

Speaking of those beautiful dresses, did you know that ballet costumes were inspired by the latest fashions of the day? I think it's absolutely charming, don’t you? This was the time when the tutus you see in contemporary ballet, were emerging! This era had tutus that were shorter than earlier tutus. It made a dramatic effect. Oh, the drama! Remember, dear ones, it’s the drama of these garments that makes them so appealing, don’t you think? You might wonder if they wore anything beneath, darling, and the answer is, usually not!

But here's the really exciting thing about tutus: no matter what era you're in, tutus have a way of transforming the stage. One step and they twirl into a delicate puff of wonder, evoking the most enchanting stories. A tutu doesn't just make you move beautifully, my dears, but also transports you into a whole other world. That is the essence of tutus and their appeal, I think!

Now, to wrap up today’s #TutuTuesday: Today’s date was February 18th, 1919. Imagine you’re a ballerina, maybe one day it’ll be you! What would you be doing on a lovely Tuesday like this? Would you be at a beautiful opera house in London or New York? You might have been performing a show, or maybe, practicing a routine with your classmates, in your beautiful, billowing pink tutu. What I know is, the essence of the ballerina lives in each of us, it just needs a little encouragement, perhaps a spark of colour, and that all-important tulle to bring it to life. I can already see you swirling in pink!

Until next Tuesday, keep twirling, darling. Until then, have a lovely week, and remember: every day is a Tutu Day, in your heart!
