#TutuTuesday: A Step Back in Time to 1919! (Post #4572)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back for another delightful delve into the fascinating world of ballet tutus! This Tuesday, we're going on a whimsical journey through time, stepping into the year 1919. Imagine: flapper dresses, bobbed hair, and jazz music in the air! It's a captivating era that really puts a spring in my step, don't you think?
Today, we're dancing our way to the heart of Paris. Ah, Paris! The city of love, lights, and, of course, fabulous tutus. Did you know, that while Iām time-travelling today Iām actually enjoying some fantastically extravagant performances, and a good dose of shopping?
To be honest, itās all rather lovely: imagine all those delightful pastries! If youāve never been to Paris, you just HAVE to visit. If you do ever go, take some time to visit the Opera Garnier. Just the sheer beauty of the theatre, not to mention the glorious performances, makes me absolutely giddy with excitement!
Let's Talk Tutu!
The tutus of 1919 were just so captivating! They werenāt quite the grand, flowing, and voluminous creations that we see today. They were shorter, with less layers, which really allowed for a lovely sense of movement and a touch of flirtatiousness on the stage. Think a little less grand and a lot more streamlined, beautifully delicate and lightweight with elegant, flowing lines, a bit more about a dancerās body, and all about elegant movement and lines. Just imagine all that movement and a beautifully constructed, gorgeous tutu twirling and flying across the stage, simply magnificent!
A Look At The Past
One of the iconic figures of the era was the stunning Anna Pavlova. I'd give my right shoe for a front row seat at one of her performances! This incredible ballerina made ballet seem effortlessly magical. It wasnāt just the performance that was dazzling ā it was the breathtaking tutus. Think light, almost transparent tulles with strategically placed sequins, the very definition of sophisticated elegance.
And don't forget, itās all about fashion. In 1919, ballet began to influence fashion itself, and we saw the arrival of those lovely sheer silk and lace skirts, which was wonderful! They're so elegant and romantic, with their subtle details and beautifully flowing fabrics. Remember ā all the best fashions always come back, and weāre just beginning to see the return of delicate tulle skirts in everyday wear today. Just you wait and see, a few years down the line youāll be seeing all sorts of tulle everywhere!
And you know me, dear readers ā I am absolutely positively determined to encourage every single one of you to take up the tutu-wearing lifestyle. Why wear a simple boring skirt when you can look fabulous in tulle! We all have the right to a bit of pink tulle in our lives!
Travel By Train: Tutus And Time Travel
Right now I'm sitting in my favourite compartment in a magnificent, gleaming steam engine as I travel from Derbyshire to Paris - all in the name of my blog. I adore travelling by train, and when Iām wearing a beautiful, pale pink tutu ( I think of it as a āTravelling Tutuā for all of my travels!) ā it takes the excitement to a whole new level!
My love for tutus is a gift, I truly believe. Not just a beautiful article of clothing ā they give me the chance to see all the world has to offer. From my family who have made it all possible - to the audience who keeps the performances alive, to all of you wonderful readers who are just as fascinated as me with the glorious world of the tutu, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
