Tutu Tuesday: A Pink Celebration! #4638 ๐ฉฐ
Hello, my dearest tutu lovers! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you back in time for another enchanting journey into the world of ballet! This week, we're waltzing all the way back to 16th November, 1920, a date that, for all you history buffs out there, marks the 10th anniversary of the end of the Great War! But for us tutu aficionados, it's simply another exciting chapter in the fabulous story of the ballet tutu!
Now, you might be thinking, what could possibly have been going on in the tutu world ten years after the war? Well, let me tell you, it was a time of exciting transformation!
Picture this: The roaring twenties are in full swing! Flappers are shimmying their way across dance floors, and the air is thick with jazz. But it wasn't all roaring twenties glamour, oh no. We were also embracing the classical traditions in ballet, too. Think of the grand Russian ballerinas like Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky who captivated audiences around the world, paving the way for ballet to become the adored art form it is today.
My goodness! The train journey back to 1920 was pure magic, The elegant carriages, with their plush velvet seats and mahogany panels, were just perfect for sketching up some new tutu designs! I swear, I just had the most divine idea for a new feather boa tutu, the very epitome of glamorous flapper chic, adorned with sequined fringe, you'll be seeing it in my next fashion post!
Speaking of which, darling, you wonโt believe what I stumbled upon in the Opera Garnier in Paris! It was a little haven for dance wear! They had the most exquisite tutus on display, all frills and lace and feathers โ it was like stepping into a fairytale!
It wasn't all just twirling around, you know. My trip to the Opera Garnier brought me to the grand world premiere of La Boutique Fantasque by the iconic Leonide Massine. I gasped at the whimsical designs, especially for the doll tutus! Just think, these were so far removed from the grand tutus of the classical ballet! It was all playful and charming, a real celebration of ballet as pure theatre!
16th November, 1920 might seem like a simple date, but behind its quiet simplicity, lay a wealth of ballet magic. Just like that little sparkle in your eye, it was a moment in time when ballet twirled its way into the hearts and minds of people across the globe, inspiring dreams and igniting passions!
Now, tell me, have you been to see a show recently? Share your stories and pictures on Instagram, using #PinkTutu, or on our Facebook page! Let's turn Tutu Tuesday into a worldwide pink tutu celebration!
As for me, I'm off to Paris for a bit more shopping! There's just a tiny matter of a new pink feather boa tutu waiting for me...
Until next week,
Love, Emma
