#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back for another dose of #TutuTuesday history! Today's blog is extra special as it marks a significant day in our timeline. Are you ready to embark on a whirlwind tour to 14th December 1920? Let's go! 💖

Tutu-licious Times: A 1920s Fashion Frenzy

Stepping off the train at Gare du Nord in Paris, I feel a familiar buzz. This city is electric with artistic energy and a fashion sense that just makes me want to twirl. As always, I've gone for a statement piece to make an impact. You'll find me flitting around Paris in a pale pink tulle tutu, layered over a soft, peach-hued silk slip dress.

This Parisian scene is a stark contrast to my home county of Derbyshire. Whilst we love a good countryside dance in England, the 1920s has a particular flare. Fashion is wild! Imagine dancing the Charleston in a fringed flapper dress or swaying in a flowing gown with dropped waistlines. It's a symphony of movement and colour.

My main mission? To observe and soak up the trends, of course. Today, my goal is to explore the origins of the modern tutu. The tutu as we know it wouldn't have become commonplace until a little later. Yet, the fashion landscape here in 1920s Paris is laying the foundations for that very movement. I feel like a detective on a tutu quest!

Ballet Beauties & Fashion Follies

Where better to immerse myself in ballet and fashion than the Théâtre National de l’Opéra? I feel a giddy mix of excitement and reverence as I enter this opulent space, the heartbeat of ballet. It's filled with a buzz of anticipation, and the elegant silhouettes of dancers in rehearsal grace the stage.

Just seeing the sleek movements of the ballet dancers, with their stylish attire, is inspiring me already! The modern ballet tutu would still be a few years away but their stage presence is already pushing boundaries, just like the flapper girls! Think flowing garments with elegant lines. The influence of 1920s fashion on future dance costume is fascinating to see.

As I make my way to my seat, my eye catches a magnificent array of extravagant millinery creations - hats with cascading feathers and shimmering headbands adorned with rhinestones. Every woman is a queen, exuding an aura of charm and elegance, and each one a unique vision. That is the true charm of Parisian style – bold, feminine, and expressive.

A Whirlwind of History & A Date With Destiny

Speaking of expressive, let's talk about today's date – December 14th. Why is this so special, you ask? It's the birthday of Martha Graham, one of the most iconic and revolutionary figures in the world of American modern dance! It is thanks to such pioneers who are reshaping what it means to be a dancer.

Of course, back in 1920, she is only a year old, a little bundle of joy destined to move the world.

Her career has left a lasting legacy that continues to influence dancers worldwide. A true testament to the strength, grace, and individuality that a passion for dance can unlock. If this day didn't already have so much magic in it, this simply tops it off!

Taking Tutu Trends Home

The magic of #TutuTuesday is always a celebration of the spirit of fashion and a deep-rooted love of dancing! But most importantly, the beauty of ballet is that its impact can go far beyond the stage. From the elegance of its movements to the captivating world of design, ballet inspires us all.

My own quest for finding the perfect tutu has led me all around the world. It is this journey that led me to create my blog and now we can all travel back in time with me!

So, tell me, my lovely readers, what are you planning to wear today? Remember, a little sprinkle of pink magic can brighten up any day!

See you next week for another journey back through the magical world of tutus! 💖

Love,

Emma xx
