#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1921! 🩰

Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu! This week, we're taking a delightful journey back in time, to a day just like this, way back in 1921! Can you believe it? Imagine a world without iPhones, internet, or even TV! Now that's a true tutu test, isn't it?

(Speaking of iPhones, don't forget to share this post on your social media! #TutuTuesday #PinkTutu #BalletHistory)

Before I begin, let's get something straight. It's 1921, my darlings, a time when flapper dresses and jazz were the rage! So picture this: bustling London streets, men in bowler hats, ladies with bobbed hair, and me, your glamorous guide, waltzing through it all in my signature pink tutu! It's truly a sight to behold, isn't it?

Oh, and I've been practicing some new moves in my latest Parisian tutu for a secret show coming up in Vienna. Did you know the tutu's history is entwined with Vienna? Of course, you did darling! Just a tiny bit of historical tutu knowledge for your week! 😉

I digress... This is post number 4674 for you all. We’ve come a long way from those first tutu blogs in 2015, and I'm so grateful you're still following my journey! Your support truly makes my day brighter than a spotlight. 💕

A Journey to the Past:

1921 is quite the year for tutus! The Ballet Russe, with their fabulous costumes and dynamic choreography, have just finished a tour of America. Yes, a trip across the Atlantic! The company has revolutionised the dance world with innovative stage design, exciting themes, and breathtaking choreography. And what was the pièce de résistance?

You guessed it! Stunning tutus! Imagine flowing layers of silk, beautifully embellished with pearls, feathers, and sparkling jewels. Simply divine!

A Time for Experimentation

The tutus of 1921 are a delightful blend of tradition and innovation. They were evolving from the more rigid, full-length Romantic era tutus to something lighter, shorter, and freer. Imagine delicate tulle swirling around dancers' legs as they gracefully glide across the stage. It was an exciting time for the tutu, indeed! ✨

Let me tell you, I travelled to see the Ballet Russe at Covent Garden last month, and I was in a whirl of excitement! I mean, it was London, darlings! Every girl, young and old, wanted to twirl in a tulle dress that looked just like the ballerina's, so you could say they set a pretty amazing trend, couldn't you?

The Parisian Influence:

Ah, Paris, the city of lights, fashion, and... tutus? Why yes! Paris was at the forefront of ballet fashion, and designers like Coco Chanel, yes, that Chanel! Were pushing the boundaries of fashion with new shapes, fabrics, and styles that we all copied with gusto, right down to our gorgeous tutus.

And in 1921, there is nothing we love more than copying La Mode Parisienne in our ballet classes, our performances, and, of course, in our daily lives! Just wait, my darlings, I think we're in for a tutu trend revolution later in the decade, because if there is anything a Parisienne loves, it is being the centre of attention and looking fabulous.

Fashion Forward

Today, my dear fashionistas, I'm sporting a pale pink tutu, crafted by my favourite artisan in the Parisian fashion district. It is all flowing silk, beautifully draped with shimmering silver thread. We may be stepping into a world where the roaring twenties are fast becoming a very glamorous memory, but let's keep the pink, let's keep the style, let's keep the spirit of dance alive!

Speaking of style, have you seen the newest tutu collection in Harrods? Absolutely breathtaking! This tutu-loving soul just has to tutti get down to London, which is just one reason I can't wait for the weekend! I have booked a carriage to Paddington on Thursday so I can be in the Capital before Friday's shopping rush. You know, there is something about a new tutu that just makes me want to be in the capital with the latest London fashion crowd! Darling, we can never have too many tutus, right?! *

I'll be adding more tutu tips and tricks on Pink-Tutu.com throughout the week, so come back for more fabulous tutus, dance inspiration, and fashion tips. In the meantime, stay fashionable, darling, and keep twirling!

P.S., don’t forget to share your #TutuTuesday photos with me on social media! I want to see all those beautiful tutus around the world!
