#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 30th August 1921 (Blog Post #4679)

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, back with another fab #TutuTuesday post! Buckle up, darlings, because we're waltzing our way back to 1921 today!

Now, I'm not going to lie, I was a little apprehensive about this one. 1921 - that's practically the Roaring Twenties! Was the tutu even a thing then?

Turns out, the tutu was still twirling its way onto the dance floor in 1921, but it wasn't quite the pouffy, frilly vision of sheerness we know and adore today. No, no! Imagine a short, knee-length, rather more modest affair. A little bit like a very fancy skirt, perhaps?

Oh, how I long for those grand, pre-war ballets where dancers, their heads held high, spun and leaped with such elegance. It wasn't just the tutu, though, it was the entire experience, wasn't it? The atmosphere! The gowns! I do love a little bit of pomp and ceremony, and 1921 had it in spades.

But darling, don't think the 1920s were all about serious faces and stifling formality! No! The dance floor was where all that glorious exuberance spilled out. Think charleston, think foxtrot! Think flapper dresses, bobbed hair, and oh my, a fringe! Who doesn't love a fringe, darlings? I do!

Now, let's dive into a little bit of fashion fun, shall we? My journey this week has brought me to Paris, the heart of style. Think bold colours, long, slender lines, and fabrics flowing with that exquisite sense of 'movement'. And let's not forget about the jewellery! Long strands of pearls and elegant pendants were the ultimate finishing touch.

My own look today is inspired by the effortless glamour of 1921. A knee-length blush pink tutu paired with a sleek, silky blouse, and a touch of sparkly black beads – pure elegance, don't you think? Oh, and I've found the perfect pair of vintage heels! (You can imagine how excited I am - shoes! I do love a pair of lovely shoes! My motto is β€œIf in doubt, wear a great pair of shoes.”)

You see, darlings, even back then, fashion was about more than just clothes – it was about expression, about making a statement. And in my own small way, that's what I aim to do here on Pink-Tutu.com - to encourage every single one of you to express your unique flair, and perhaps even slip on a little pink tutu while you're at it. Why not? It's all about embracing that joyful, playful spirit.

Oh! And I nearly forgot, what exactly was happening on the 30th of August 1921? Well, that would be National Hug Day, a little-known event to most. Isn't that lovely? Let's give the idea a little bit of airtime! It’s an excuse to embrace all our dear friends, neighbours, and family, with open arms, a huge hug and a big smile! So, do take the opportunity to shower a little love around!

I can't wait to tell you all about another glorious Tuesday in Tutu history. In the meantime, darling, do keep on twirling!

Your time-traveling tutu-tastic friend,

Emma
