#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through the Past! (Post #4703)
Hello darlings! Welcome back to your favourite tutu-tastic corner of the internet - Pink Tutu! It's Tuesday, which means it's time to delve into the history of the most fabulous garment known to humankind: the tutu! ๐ฉฐ
This week, I'm whisking you back to February 14th, 1922, a day buzzing with excitement as usual! Imagine me, your ever-so-stylish guide, fluttering about in my latest pink tulle creation, complete with a fetching feather boa and a bejeweled tiara (because even in 1922, a girl needs a bit of sparkle!).
The Dance World of 1922
1922, darling! A year of shimmering silk and fabulous flapper dresses. Imagine, instead of sleek, athletic lines, the dancers were waltzing in full-length, voluminous skirts โ practically billowing like clouds. You wouldn't catch them pirouetting in those! But just imagine the swirling, majestic beauty!
It's funny, but back then, the tutu as we know it today - short and whimsical, a symphony of tulle - was barely a twinkle in the designer's eye. But those classic romantic ballets we know and adore โ Swan Lake, Giselle, they were all starting to blossom and the costumes were oh-so-gorgeous, a breathtaking vision of romanticism and elegance.
Tutu Shopping in 1922?
Sadly, back then, the only shops stocked with ballet-worthy tutus were the ateliers of the costumiers - they were considered "stage costumes" and not yet a regular part of our wardrobes. But I have a secret: you can get some exquisite handmade tulle skirts from the milliners in the grand department stores. They weren't specifically tutus, but a girl can adapt them with a bit of clever stitching and the right attitude, don't you think?
What Was Trending On Valentine's Day 1922?
February 14th in 1922 was a date for all the classic romantic things, just as it is now! Imagine the charming ladies receiving roses, perhaps a beautiful piece of jewellery, or even a handwritten letter, penned with loving ink, sent by their gentleman callers. And, of course, chocolates โ always the sweet companion to romance!
Travel Plans!
As you know, darling, I adore train journeys. I've taken the Flying Scotsman (the engine, not the person! - it's terribly chic!) many times, but this time I'm hopping on a charming vintage train, a grand adventure with views of rolling fields, quaint cottages, and maybe even a bustling marketplace or two. Just think of all the stories those windows could tell!
The Inspiration That Keeps Me Twirling
So, my dear tutu enthusiasts, remember - the past is full of inspiration. Whether it's a billowing gown on stage, a hand-stitched skirt, or a charming letter written in fine ink, those beautiful, romantic details of a bygone era can easily be spun into your own modern-day story! We are all connected to the world of ballet in our own special way, even in those simpler, yet grand times!
Until next Tuesday, keep twirling, keep smiling, and never forget โ pink is always the answer!
Emma xoxo
