#TutuTuesday: A Trip Through Time – Ballet Tutu History! Post 4736!

Hello darling tutus and welcome back to another fabulous #TutuTuesday! This week, we're twirling back to the glorious year of 1922, a time when fashion was a symphony of style, and tutus, well, they were just getting started! I'm Emma, your trusty guide through the magical world of ballet history, and let me tell you, we're in for a treat today.

Before we get swept away in the swirling fabrics and glamorous steps of yesteryear, let me tell you how I arrived here: A little journey in my trusty time machine, fuelled by my love for ballet and the promise of another fabulous frock! Who can resist the allure of Paris, darling? This time, the time machine whisked me right into the heart of the City of Lights! As soon as the train stopped and I emerged onto the cobblestones, I knew it was the perfect setting to explore ballet fashion in 1922.

The year is humming with creativity – it's just a year after Diaghilev's "The Rite of Spring" revolutionized the dance world and, my word, was it a hit! Think sleek lines, bold colours, and moves so powerful they took the breath away. This was a time when fashion took inspiration from art, and ballet was right at the centre of it all. Imagine shimmering silk, the most dazzling jewels, and costumes designed by legends like Léon Bakst – a real fashion feast for the eyes!

Speaking of fabulous designs, let's talk tutus! Now, don't picture the billowing, romantic tutus we see on the stages today, because 1922 had something different entirely. Think shorter, skimpier skirts, clinging tightly to the legs – just imagine the graceful, nimble movement they would have allowed on stage! These little tutus, often with just the faintest hint of tulle peeking through, gave a modern look that contrasted with the lavish and opulent garments worn by society ladies. Imagine if I could travel to that time, a true time traveller wearing a pink tutu - everyone would stop in their tracks and think "she looks positively revolutionary! The future is here!". I simply can't resist wearing my signature pink tutus, you see! It's my own personal style statement and way to help other lovely ladies to feel brave enough to do the same - after all, nothing is more liberating than being dressed to impress, even when it means standing out!

Now, on to the most exciting event on our time-travelling agenda! Let's turn the clock back to October 3rd, 1922 – I can picture the bright lights, the lively chatter, and the thrill in the air! Tonight, Paris is alight with the magical spell of the Ballet Russes at the Opera. I must say, nothing can quite match the anticipation of seeing Serge Diaghilev's vision come alive. To see the dancers swirl, the music soar, and the stage transformed into a world of colour, that's the magic of the ballet! Imagine this: dancing is like a living dream – so vibrant, full of expression, so captivating. Who could ever resist the magic of ballet? I certainly can't!

Now, darling, imagine strolling along the Rue de la Paix after the performance, perhaps popping into the atelier of one of those famous couturiers and whispering about my own time travel story to the elegant customers. After a fabulous evening, I can always find a charming boutique or two in Paris that caters to a fashionable tutu aficionado. What a fantastic adventure to get a taste of 1922, where history met fashion and the stage!

If this hasn’t quite stirred your inner ballerina and your desire to get on board with the tutu trend, don’t worry.

Come back next Tuesday for another fabulous blast from the past with a #TutuTuesday.

Until then, keep your chin up, keep your tutu-wear high, and twirl your way into a delightful week! You’ll look amazing, darling!

Now, I’ve gotta run - I've got a big show to get to. Let me go find myself a good spot for my next show!

Lots of love,

Emma
