#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time - 1923, Paris! 🩰

Bonjour, darling tutu lovers! Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad time-travelling blogger, bringing you another edition of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History! Today, we’re taking a trip back to the roaring twenties, a magical era where the world was buzzing with new energy and a touch of jazz. We're whisked away to the heart of dance, Paris, the city that embraces creativity and embodies elegance. This is post number 4791 for www.pink-tutu.com, so make sure you're following along!

As I step onto the platform of the Gare de Lyon, the air vibrates with the hum of a thousand possibilities. Imagine the excitement - 1923, and Paris is buzzing! We're in the midst of artistic revolution, where modernism is changing the way we view everything from art to fashion. It’s no surprise, then, that this very date – 23rd October 1923 – witnessed a historic premiere: Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes taking the stage with a new work, "Le Train Bleu." Imagine – the very idea of a ballet set on a train!

It’s so chic, my darlings! The sheer imagination of such a theme - fashion, glamour, and trains! And the costumes, a veritable explosion of colour and creativity, with bold geometric designs and shimmering fabrics – just the sort of spectacle I adore. It's almost as though fashion and dance have intertwined to become one. The colours are vivid, a testament to the energy of the times. There’s even talk of turquoise and bright orange tutus! I wonder what I might find in a Parisian vintage shop… 🤔

Imagine, the elegance of a long, sweeping train dress adorned with feathers, with the swirling movements of a ballerina's body, evoking the rhythm of the railway. Such elegance and artistic vision. And speaking of tutus – in 1923, we are still embracing the romantic tutu with its soft tulle and swirling tiers, reminiscent of flowers in full bloom. Imagine dancing through Paris streets in such a dress, twirling around every corner. My fellow tutu-lovers, we might just have found our inspiration! ✨

My heart skips a beat thinking about the vibrant nightlife of Paris – a city where fashion is embraced with boundless creativity. The air thrumming with jazz music, flapper dresses fluttering as ladies move gracefully, their movements inspired by the Ballets Russes. Even ballet moves were starting to shift, with faster and more rhythmic steps inspired by modern music and the spirit of the age.

So, on this #TutuTuesday, take a step back in time with me and imagine dancing on a train, feeling the wind whip past you. Let's keep our eyes peeled for the latest in tutus, maybe even a hint of a “Train Bleu” colour scheme, and remember that inspiration can be found everywhere. As I continue to explore Paris, I feel so much energy, so much passion! This city really is the home of my tutu-dreams, and I can’t wait to show you more!

Until next week, darlings, keep twirling and dream in pink!

Love,

Emma 💕
