#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1924-06-10

Hello, my lovely tutu-loving friends! It’s your favourite pink-clad ballerina Emma here, bringing you another exciting edition of #TutuTuesday, straight from the glamorous world of ballet history! It's Tuesday, 10th June, and I'm just getting back from another delightful trip through time – this time landing smack bang in the middle of 1924! And you wouldn't believe what I discovered! This time I was travelling by the most gorgeous, opulent train you can imagine. Oh, and I can't resist popping into one of the charming vintage boutiques. It is just such fun to browse!

This is post number 4824, and if you haven't already, make sure to visit our blog home at www.pink-tutu.com!

Let’s go back in time to explore how the ballet world was dazzling back in 1924, shall we?

I just have to tell you, 1924 was an absolute dream! I landed in the very heart of London, in a little cafe overlooking a bustling theatre district. Imagine, my darlings! Imagine stepping out into the roaring 20s and finding yourself amongst charming art deco designs, chic flapper dresses, and gentlemen sporting dapper suits! The air crackled with energy and the exciting prospect of a brand new era – everything just felt so lively!

I popped into one of those delightful shops they call “haberdasheries.” Honestly, these were such charming, cluttered places filled with all sorts of glittering goodies – feathers, beads, buttons and laces, oh my! This is the period when "sewing shops" start calling themselves haberdasheries – you'll often see that used instead, so look out for that on your time travel journeys! And then I saw the tutus – it's like walking into a dream, honestly. They were shorter, with flowing skirts in beautiful silk. All so light and graceful. Oh, darling, if you have any doubt that a tutu could be practical for all day wear, just picture it in the sunshine – it really is quite a joy to behold!

I immediately fell head over heels for this short, bouncy, feather-light look – and oh, did you see those sequins! Sparkling like diamonds, they looked magical against the sunlight, so beautifully reflected! These tutus felt like a breath of fresh air. I instantly envisioned myself waltzing across the stage in one, swirling around with every pirouette! And speaking of pirouettes, have you seen the graceful new ballerina footwear, darling? They weren't wearing these awful pointed shoes they have now – they were rocking flat-soled shoes that let the dancers leap and bound. Not just practical, it made their legs look so incredibly elegant! Oh, I just want to twirl forever! The grace, the fluidity - they even used a silk underskirt for a lovely floaty effect. Don’t even get me started on the vibrant colors – every shade imaginable, it felt like a rainbow!

Of course, as every true Tutu Queen knows, tutus are just the beginning, my loves! To top off these magnificent looks, these dancers wore beautiful long sleeved bodice designs that accentuated their slender silhouettes. Just picture this: sparkling sequins against soft fabrics in deep jewel tones, and some daring accents of red! This must have been such a stunning spectacle to witness, and oh, the excitement! Everything just oozed creativity and glamour, a truly perfect blend of feminine grace and modern style. There was one lady dressed entirely in red! Just so divine, a gorgeous burgundy dress with sparkling bead embellishment and the red-velvet skirt of a ballet tutu on over the top. It was truly a sight to behold!

Just the other day, a couple of friends and I attended a performance at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Such a magical night! We found ourselves completely captivated by a truly amazing ballet – they call it ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ - which you’ve just gotta see! You won’t regret it. And to think, just a short hop on the train and it's like stepping back in time to a magnificent era, where imagination truly came alive on stage!

Don't forget to join the conversation on our blog! Tell us what you think about this look! And oh, remember our goal, my sweet lovelies! We're aiming to get everyone dancing in a pink tutu! If we are all on board to embrace the love, confidence, and sheer joy of wearing this beautiful garment, we could spark a revolution in fashion. Isn't that just incredible? Let's work together to create a world where tutus rule, a world where the joy of ballet seeps into our every day, and everyone feels the power and beauty of dancing.

Stay fabulous! Stay pink! And above all, never stop twirling, darlings!

Emma x
