#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - Ballet Tutu History - 8th July, 1924! πŸ©°πŸ’•

Hello my lovely tutu-loving darlings! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday! This week, we're whisking back to the dazzling Twenties, where flappers sashayed, jazz bands swung, and... ballet tutus were in their element! Buckle up, it's time for a history lesson with a twinkle in its toe!

Today marks the 8th of July, 1924. Just imagine it, my dears - it's a gloriously sunny day. The air is buzzing with the excitement of London's vibrant streets, and the theatre scene is on fire! There's an air of liberation in the air, as skirts are shorter and hairstyles more daring than ever before. This excitement trickles down to the world of dance too.

Now, let's rewind the clock, to the beginning of this century, where a different picture emerges. Ballet tutus were much more conservative in their silhouette – think lots of billowing layers, often of tulle or silk, and an abundance of ribbons and trimmings. The styles mirrored the corseted, floor-length elegance of the era's fashions. A world away from the streamlined and sporty looks we see today!

Enter the roaring 20s, and with a joyful wave of artistic revolution, the ballerina's wardrobe goes through its own fabulous transformation! This exciting era sees the classic tutu we recognize today begin to emerge!

The early tutus of this period - the ones that truly made their mark in this era - are much more fluid and elegant in shape, featuring a new emphasis on streamlining and symmetry. There's a lightness and movement to these dresses of dance, making it easier to see the dancers' graceful movements and athleticism on stage.

Imagine for a moment - dancers are stepping into shorter, tighter-fitting skirts with minimal flounces or embellishments. Think flowing silk in delicate pastels - blush, baby blue, pale greens - such feminine hues that match perfectly with the graceful and athletic moves of the dancers. It's this revolution that leads us to the iconic tutus of the coming decades.

This evolution of the tutu is absolutely brilliant - a marriage of artistry and functionality that allowed the beauty of the dancer's form and movement to truly shine. This era of revolutionary changes to the tutu happened just after the end of the First World War. What a gorgeous metaphor! Out of difficult times comes new possibilities and innovation.

This date is especially special to me because - and whisper this darling, because this is a little bit hush-hush!

On this very day, in 1924, I just happened to be caught up in a particularly fantastic ballet performance! Imagine this - the curtains rise, the orchestra bursts into a lively piece and a shimmering tutu made of shimmering blue and silver tulle caught my eye in the stage lights. My oh my, the graceful way the dancer moved, it was like seeing a star shimmer in the sky! That very moment - with a shimmer of joy, a passion for tutus began to blossom inside me! It sparked my love for history, for dance, and most importantly - my love for a beautiful pink tutu.

Today - my darling friends! - this little tale is what pushes me forward!

This very date is what reminds me of the fabulous possibilities that exist for every one of us to follow their passions! If a dance costume can inspire someone as deeply as it inspired me, think what else can ignite the spark of joy in each of us!

It's our duty as fashionable fans of the ballet - the #tutusisters as I like to call you - to continue to spread joy, love and happiness through dance. Our task - my dears! - is to embrace this gorgeous journey that's been made by so many brilliant minds before us!

And guess what, my darling dears! The brilliant evolution of the ballet tutu didn't stop here! Next Tuesday, I'll be bringing you right up to the present day!
