Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through Time! (Post #4887)
Hello my darling darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and I'm thrilled to be back with you all for another edition of #TutuTuesday!
Today we're twirling back to the glorious year 1925, a time of flapper dresses, jazz music, and oh yes, of course, ballet! The dance scene was abuzz, just like a swarm of happy bumblebees flitting between blooms!
I've just stepped off the Orient Express in Paris - isn't she a beauty? Imagine, the sleekest train whisking me through Europe in a whirl of chic hats and even chicer shoes. You see, this trip has been all about fashion, my dear friends. I've been searching for inspiration, and boy oh boy, have I found it!
Firstly, I can't believe I've just walked into a room where all the "en pointe" shoes were pointed down! Can you imagine the disastrous wobbles and accidental tumbles? It seems back then, dancers only had the traditional toe shoes - not even thinking about the delicate, supportive modern pointe shoes! It’s like dancing on tiny, slippery castles in the sky.
Of course, fashion-forward ballet was alive and kicking in 1925, even if they were still learning how to stand on tippy toes gracefully. Imagine these lovely ladies in their flowing gowns and elegant silk, with just a little whisper of a tutu peeking out below! We wouldn’t have a dream of putting these on today, right?! We prefer our tutus a little more puff and flourish! I adore the grand designs of today - layers and layers of fluffy, ethereal tulle swirling with each elegant pirouette. But then again, maybe there's something a bit magical about a peekaboo tutu, too...
Speaking of magic, on this very day in history, 25th of August, 1925, something utterly brilliant happened. I saw a production of Scheherazade in the Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris - just divine, absolutely divine! Every single dancer looked utterly fantastic in their dazzling costumes and gorgeous tutus. We’re talking glorious colours, decadent embroidery, and, get this - a tiny sliver of a black pas de deux tutu that I am convinced will inspire all of you, my fabulous ballet beauties, for a whole new style trend! A little black tutu! Oh la la!
But here’s the real magic, the one I’m totally loving about 1925, it’s not just the costumes but it's the atmosphere, dear friends! Back then, it wasn’t about the competition of grand jetés and complicated moves, it was all about beauty, about expressing emotions through movement. It's something we've somewhat forgotten, the joy of dancing simply because you love it! That is why my mission this week is all about simplicity - the simple joy of the ballet!
Remember to follow me on instagram, darlings. #TutuTuesday isn't just for blogging; I’m all over your socials with photos from Paris! We’ll be dancing in my next blog with all the tutu magic from 1925 that I'm hoping to turn into some 21st century inspiration. Let's go get those tutus ready, my loves. This week we’ll be embracing the simple, graceful joy of ballet!
Catch you all next week with more twirling and travel! Until then, let’s keep the spirit of tutus strong, bright, and… yes, pink!
Always in my pink tutu, Emma.
XOXO!
