Tutu Tuesday: #4889 - A Parisian Adventure (1925-09-08)
Bonjour mes chéries! Emma here, your pink tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed blogger, back with another journey through time to discover the wonders of tutus! Today, we're jetting off (or rather, choo-choo-ing our way, in true 1920s fashion!) to the magical city of Paris. Imagine, a world where tutus weren't just for ballerinas, where even everyday women strutted around in billowing, fabulous tulle!
Yes, my dear friends, September 8th, 1925, was a day brimming with the glorious Parisian chic that is forever tied to the image of the tutu. Today we're stepping back in time to explore the trends of a vibrant period where tutus danced their way into fashion history, and frankly, we’re all the better for it!
This week, our time travel adventures have brought me right to the heart of the French capital, with a twirling and a skip (yes, I definitely skipped into my private railway carriage!), and I am utterly smitten. The Parisians are radiating effortless elegance, even in their everyday attire!
What is it about Paris that makes everything just… chic? I think it might be the bold, daring silhouettes and the fearless way Parisians play with colours and fabrics. I feel it most in the dresses of the era – flapper dresses with fringes, bold stripes, and a definite dash of rebellious charm. But then there's the magic of the tutu – oh, how those swirly layers of tulle captured my attention! I felt an instant connection to the ballerinas I've watched onstage – this ethereal, almost otherworldly elegance that is all about movement, lightness, and artistry.
Tutus on the Streets of Paris: The Ballet's Fashion InfluenceTutus, those delicate symbols of grace and elegance, were far from confined to the stages of the Opera Garnier, although they definitely had their spotlight there. This day in 1925, the world of ballet was in full swing, with a vibrant performance at the Garnier – I snuck into a balcony box to enjoy the show, all in my shimmering pink tutu (one can’t simply ignore the magic of ballet when it calls!), and oh, how those dancers twirled! I am telling you, those steps and movements are divine! I’ve found my dancing shoes – ballet is where my heart truly lies.
As the ballet drew to a close, I peeked into the heart of the audience - so many fashionable Parisians had on stunning garments that incorporated a bit of "tutu-esque" magic in their attire. Imagine billowing layers of silk and chiffon – like a delicate cloud around a dancer’s body! There was a playful touch, a hint of rebellious whimsy that echoed the ballet I had just seen. These beautiful people with their effortless grace, even the ones with just a little "tutu touch" in their outfits were a testament to the powerful influence that ballet had on everyday fashion.
Imagine walking through Paris on September 8, 1925 - I am doing that right now, wearing a dainty pale pink tutu (don't worry, my darling, my travelling suitcase is always full of fabulous tutus to ensure I am ready for every Parisian adventure!). There is a genuine charm and romance about it – a gentle breeze swirls around my pink tutu and the streets smell divine! It is easy to feel like you are right out of a ballet.
Shopping in Paris: My Pink Tutu DreamBut enough of the Parisian street scene (I can’t wait to write another blog on this fabulous place – but I need to shop and enjoy the beauties of Paris! )! The streets of Paris were buzzing with bustling shoppers just like me. You know I just can't resist a good shopping trip, so I wandered into a delightful store called La Mode. Now, my dears, if I didn’t know it was 1925 I’d think I was in one of those lovely designer shops we find in Derby – everything was chic and oh-so glamorous! I have the best feeling – this tutu fashion trend is only just getting started!
Sharing the Pink Tutu DreamThis has been such a joyful, exhilarating experience. I’m already counting down the days to our next Parisian adventure ( and I know you're probably wondering how a Derby girl like me has such a fantastic fashion and travelling lifestyle – you can say it’s my secret, a small-town girl with a huge dream to make pink tutus the most loved piece of clothing on the planet. But I won’t lie – ballet pays better than I thought and travelling from one era to another helps, just a little).
Until next week my dear pink tutu loving beauties, when we continue on our time travel journey of tutus.
