#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Back to 1925!
Hello, my darling dears! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, back with another #TutuTuesday blog post from the archives of time travel! This week, we're stepping back in time to 6th October 1925, a time of flapper dresses, jazz music, and - of course! - burgeoning ballet! Buckle your seatbelts, ladies, we're going for a vintage spin!
Oh my, you simply wouldn't believe the glorious train journey I took to get to Paris this time. Paris is just such a chic place to find yourself on a Tuesday, isn't it? I love to slip on my pink tutu, it just makes me feel so…fabulous, ready to embrace the energy and style of this fashion capital.
And this Tuesday in 1925, dear reader, the air is positively abuzz with exciting artistic whispers. It’s the start of the "Ballets Russes" season at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Talk about a whirlwind! This famous ballet company, known for its revolutionary aesthetic, was founded by Sergei Diaghilev back in 1909. The impact? Well, think flamboyant costumes, cutting edge choreography, and some of the most iconic ballerinas of the era gracing the stage.
My darling dears, it's a feast for the eyes! Can you picture a stage illuminated by exquisite sets, overflowing with movement and emotion? And the costumes - think glittering colours, sumptuous silks and intricate embroidery! You just know it was something spectacular. It makes you just want to don your own shimmering tutu and dance, doesn't it?
Let's rewind a little. You see, 1925 was a particularly important year for the evolution of the tutu. We’re not just talking the wispy little things from romantic ballets anymore - oh no! Think structured tutus, a bit more voluminous, perhaps. And here’s a bit of fashion history fun, ladies! In 1925, Parisian couturiers started introducing shorter dresses with knee-length hems, influenced by the rising fashion of flapper dresses! These bold silhouettes made their way to the ballet stage too, reflected in shorter skirts for the dancers!
My heart is fluttering, dear reader! I imagine those delicate, swaying skirts adding even more movement and charm to the already breathtaking ballets! We've got a little ballet history going on right here!
The energy of 1925, and particularly this 6th of October, is exhilarating! The world is ready for a bold new era, an era of creative exploration and pushing boundaries. And what better way to express those creative desires than through ballet? It's all about storytelling through graceful movements and elegant tutus - isn’t it simply glorious?
I always find that dancing, in my pink tutu of course, helps me find my voice, express my thoughts and emotions, and maybe even inspire some lovely people along the way to follow in my steps - in their own favourite tutus! Because the right tutu is all about feeling amazing, confident and, above all, fabulous! It’s not about age or size or body type. It’s about that sense of confidence, freedom and expressing your personality.
Well my darlings, that's all from me for this #TutuTuesday. Until next week, do have a marvelous week, filled with smiles and sunshine, a whole lot of dancing and of course, pink tutus!
Emma xoxo
