#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1926-03-02
Hello darlings! Welcome back to another edition of my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog, post number 4914, right here on www.pink-tutu.com! It’s a bright and breezy Tuesday, and I'm ready to whisk you back to the glittering era of 1926, where our beloved tutu has a most glamorous story unfolding.
Before we journey back, have you got your pink tutu on? If not, off you pop and grab one! It's Tuesday, it’s Tutu Tuesday, it’s practically the law. We have the best time, chatting about all things tutu, and sharing the love for the magical world of ballet, from the sparkling stage to your own living room!
Today, my travelling tutu and I are embarking on a voyage to Paris, the city that's utterly obsessed with the finer things, and where ballet is considered an art form as vital as breathing, which, really, I agree with. I always get giddy stepping onto a train for one of these Parisian adventures!
1926: Parisian Ballet Delights and Delectable TutusIn the heart of Paris we find the legendary Opera Garnier glittering under the warm March sun. The ballet world is in a flutter, all because a famous, oh so charming, Parisian ballerina called Anna Pavlova, a total fashion icon, has just arrived!
Anna, she's a bit of a tutu goddess. You could even say she’s The tutu goddess. The way she moves in a tutu is a complete vision! Oh my! It's hard to think about the tutu without seeing it being twirled by a graceful ballet dancer. There's something so ethereal and whimsical about the combination, that’s it, truly a fairytale come to life.
A Brief Look at Fashion in 1926Let’s have a look around what the fashionable ladies in Paris are wearing! 1926 was all about the flapper look – short skirts, bobbed hair, and an overall carefree, bohemian vibe.
And guess what? Ballet fashion has found its way into mainstream attire. Just imagine, this iconic ballet look is totally fashionable outside the stage! The tutu influence is visible in everyday wear, with dance-inspired, flirty and floaty skirts, just perfect for dancing at one of the many Parisian dance halls.
Now, let’s hop back to our Parisian stage, where Sergei Diaghilev's incredible Ballets Russes troupe are having their moment under the limelight. We’re going to witness a ballet extravaganza of colours, movement, and innovative costumes - all made even more mesmerising with the use of shimmering materials like silk and velvet and feather trims, just think of the gorgeousness!
Ballet and BeyondAnd, my dear fashion-forward friends, it doesn't stop there. 1926 is also the year that the "Coco" phenomenon is blowing up. You’ll see everyone in those chic little black dresses by the famous Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, the woman who changed fashion for ever, she truly did, she’s quite the legend!
Oh, and just imagine walking through a haute couture fashion show in Paris and being swept up in the whirlwind of stylish dresses and glittering jewels, I know, we'd have an amazing time, wouldn’t we?
Tutus Through Time: 1926As for the ballet tutu itself? We see the* classic* tutu gracing the stage, and let’s have a closer look, its flowing skirt of tulle is giving it a super glamorous air and a delicate air. In 1926, the tutu’s shape is still quite dramatic, flowing beautifully as the dancers twirl with graceful abandon. There's nothing quite like it, right?
It is simply magnificent, it is inspiring, it’s a timeless creation, this is truly a must-have for every ballet dancer and I want one for myself, in pink of course!
My Pink Tutu VisionAs always, my aim, darling, is to have all of you donning a pink tutu! What a picture, a world in pink tutus, just think about it! I'm convinced it's a dream we can make happen! So, let’s all try, we must work together!
As the days grow longer, I’m off on another ballet adventure! Join me next week, darlings, as we journey through more enchanting ballet tutu history right here, same place, same time! Remember, there’s a pink tutu waiting for you to wear!
See you next week for #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com!
