#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Back in Time! (Post #4955)

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you back in time with another exciting edition of #TutuTuesday! 🩰

This week, we're skipping back to December 14th, 1926. The world was a different place then, full of roaring twenties glamour and jazz! And you know what? So were the tutus!

Oh, my goodness, I just can't contain my excitement. You see, my dear readers, 1926 is an absolute gem when it comes to tutus. We're talking about the dawn of the classic, bell-shaped tutu.

Gone were the long, layered, Romantic tutus. The bell tutu had emerged, perfectly catching the light, so elegant and full of movement. This design had a slim bodice and a skirt of layered, soft, and light tulle – imagine the most gorgeous pink! Imagine how they swirled and shimmered, revealing the dancer's graceful legs in a flurry of delightful flounces.

And that, my friends, is exactly what made ballet such a spectacle in the 1920s. They were captivating, playful, and filled with such a delicate femininity. Just picture a glamorous dancer in a vibrant pink tutu, dancing under sparkling stage lights to a thrilling tango - sheer enchantment, wouldn't you agree?

Before we move on, I simply must share my latest fashion inspiration, as I was recently lucky enough to be at a performance of "Le Lac des Cygnes" in Vienna. It truly was a spectacular evening, all glitz and glamour, with gorgeous tutus fit for royalty. But there was one detail that really caught my eye - a single shimmering, pink ribbon tied delicately around the waist of the lead ballerina's tutu. Such a subtle touch but absolutely divine, creating the most beautiful contrast to her stunning, classic white tutu!

It’s that little detail, that unexpected flair, that makes all the difference. I must admit I’ve already started incorporating ribbons and pearl embellishments into my own tutus and I’ve found the perfect shop to get them at: ‘The Tutu Boutique’ on Saville Row in London. I mean, who could resist a gorgeous satin ribbon with a little pink bow adorning a dreamy tutu? Simply heavenly.

Back to the past!

So what's going on in the world on 14th December 1926? Well, the legendary ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova is touring Australia. Talk about a real life fairy godmother! Can you imagine? I’d be the first one booking tickets for her shows, taking my trusty little pink tutu with me of course!

Anna's grace, poise, and the breathtaking artistry of her ballet moves are legendary. I can just picture her performing a magical Swan Lake ballet, gracefully gliding across the stage, that breathtaking, elegant, flowing tutu captivating every single audience member.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn't all about tutus and twirls! 1926 saw many other amazing events that continue to shape our world today:

  • The discovery of the neutron happened! You know, the tiny particle that is critical for atomic structure. A little dramatic for the history of tutus, I’ll admit. But an important moment all the same.
  • And on a lighter note, the first modern paperclip was patented! That must have been a joyous day, with paper flying through the air as we all happily secured our important documents, I'm sure. A lot less “tutu-tastic”, I know, but let’s take a moment to appreciate the practicalities of life.

Now, before I whisk you back to the present, a little peek at some of the other magical happenings happening today in 1926:

  • We can enjoy delicious avocado toast, that fabulous avocado craze started in the twenties - oh, how delicious!
  • Chocolate bars were everywhere, perfect for a sweet treat during the theatre intervals.
  • And if you are ever looking for a bit of extravagance, champagne and gin are absolutely the way to go! Oh, the bubbly fizz of good times!

1926 was a time for dazzling creativity and change, where fashion was an art form and the world was abuzz with new innovations and styles. And, of course, this included the tutu, the pinnacle of elegant attire! It truly is the iconic symbol of dance and feminine grace.

So there you have it, darlings. #TutuTuesday just whisked us away for a fascinating trip back in time to 1926. Let me know what you thought, share your own fashion stories and experiences with me in the comments below!

And until next week, my friends, never be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina and twirl in your own fabulous, pink tutu!
