#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Back in Time! (Post #4968)
Bonjour mes chères amies! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-loving time traveller, back with another exciting instalment of #TutuTuesday! Today, we’re hopping on the time machine and whisking ourselves back to 15th March 1927. Fancy a little trip to the Roaring Twenties?
Fashion in the Twenties
Now, let’s talk fashion! 1927 saw the rise of the flapper era – think bobbed hairstyles, drop waist dresses, and oh-so-much shimmering beaded fringe. This was a time when women were embracing freedom and expression, and what better way to do that than with a daring new silhouette?
But alas, tutus, my lovelies, were still firmly tucked away in the realm of the stage! No ladies were strutting about on the streets in swirling pink tulle, not just yet. While ballet was becoming increasingly popular, it still hadn’t quite reached the status it enjoys today. But just imagine – wouldn't the flapper look be absolutely adorable with a tutu over the top?! A splash of colour against the black and white era, don't you think?
Let’s Travel to Paris!
So, where would our imaginary tutu-clad journey take us? Paris, of course! The City of Lights was buzzing with excitement, even more so than usual in 1927! It was the year of the renowned Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne - a grand event showcasing all the latest technological marvels. Now, picture yourself strolling through the glittering pavilions of this impressive exhibition, twirling gracefully in a pink tulle tutu! Wouldn't it make for a sensational Parisian memory?
And the Ballet Scene?
Of course, a visit to Paris wouldn’t be complete without taking in a ballet performance! On this very day in 1927, Sergueï Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes were performing a truly magical production: "Le Sacre du Printemps". You'll never guess where they were! Right in the heart of Paris, in the luxurious Théâtre des Champs-Élysées! Now, this ballet, my lovelies, is known for its stunning and daring choreography, so imagine those vibrant costumes! And while it didn’t include pink tutus, oh, how I wish it did!
Pink is in the Air
Although the Parisian fashionistas hadn’t embraced tutus yet, they were certainly fans of vibrant colours! Bright, cheerful pink was a definite favourite, seen in everything from hats to handbags. Can you imagine a vintage Parisian handbag paired with a fluffy pink tutu? My, how darling that would be! And just imagine, what if I had the power to create a world where everyone rocked a pink tutu, whether in Paris or Derbyshire? I’d set a grand example myself, with my own bespoke tutu ensemble. Perhaps a shimmering pink silk tutu, layered over a cream lace flapper dress, adorned with sparkling sequins and feather accents! Ah, just the thought fills my heart with excitement!
Our Tutu Journey Continues…
I do hope you enjoyed our little journey back in time! It’s a reminder that even in a world without widespread tutu-wearing, pink was, and always will be, the colour of joy and whimsy. So go on, my dear friends! Put on your most glamorous tutu, crank up some jazzy tunes, and twirl around your home, imagining you’re a flapper in 1927 Paris! You might just be the first one to start a pink tutu revolution.
Until next week, remember, every day is a good day for a tutu!
Bisous,
Emma
