#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 4976!

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your time-traveling, tutu-obsessed friend, back with another dose of tutu history! Today, we're waltzing back to May 10th, 1927, and oh my goodness, things were just beginning to get wild in the world of tutus! 🩰✨

Now, as a Derbyshire lass myself, you can imagine my excitement when I realised that this very date, May 10th, 1927, was the birthday of a true icon, the one and only, Margot Fonteyn. Now, if you don't know her name, honey, let me tell you, this lady changed the ballet world forever.

Think elegant, think graceful, think a tutu so perfect it makes angels weep – that's Margot for you! This woman could turn any performance into magic, and she helped to redefine what a ballerina really looked like. Forget the fluffy, traditional styles, she brought in the era of the modern tutu. That’s right, ladies, streamlined lines and innovative designs were about to burst onto the scene! 🎉

To get a real feel for what ballet looked like back then, you need to hop on a train (a lovely long train journey - nothing beats those!). Destination? The heart of Europe, darling! Paris was the hub of the ballet world at this time. Think lavish costumes, vibrant performances and an air of sophistication. Honestly, you’d be tripping over tutus on the street! 💃

Imagine a ballet performance from this era, ladies, and think of those beautiful shades of rose pink, a splash of delicate lilac, and the perfect white. That's what really stood out to me, the elegant colours. Think ballet at its most beautiful, at its most feminine, and you’ve got it right.

I’ve already packed my suitcase with the perfect pastel pink tulle number (nothing less than perfect will do!), just imagine me, gracefully stepping off that train in Paris, ready to explore the city that truly understood how to showcase the beauty of a ballet tutu. 🚄

The magic of that era wasn’t just confined to the stages of the ballet theatre either! My favourite part, ladies, was that those beautiful tutus were beginning to seep into the everyday lives of women. It’s not too far from me strutting my stuff in a tutu on the cobblestone streets of London, is it?

And talking of tutus, darling, imagine if you could travel back to Paris and wander through the most divine Parisian department stores – that’s what I’ve done and, oh my, the tulle! It’s enough to make your head spin! Imagine fabrics flowing, and delicate, beautiful designs that would leave you speechless! The excitement of ballet tutus reaching the general public was electrifying. 💫

And you know, for a while, ballet itself was moving away from those strict and rigid rules of the past. Dancers weren't afraid to experiment with movement, and those beautiful, sweeping tutus, those new modern tutus, really were a reflection of that new freedom. Just like I feel free in my tutus. I know how much freedom a tutu gives me. And that's how we should all feel.

Now, if you've been thinking about giving the ballet a whirl, darling, why not try on a tutu yourself? That’s what we’re all about at pink-tutu.com, bringing that little bit of ballerina magic to everyone, everywhere. Remember to post your photos of yourself wearing a tutu on social media, use the hashtag #pinktutu – let's all spread the love of ballet, the joy of tulle, and of course, a sprinkle of those delicious pink hues! 💖

I’ll leave you with a lovely little dance number for you all! If you’ve got the time and the room to spin, why not give it a try?

(Here’s a little snippet of Emma’s blog about Margot Fonteyn) Margot Fonteyn – A ballerina that made history

Now, the 10th of May, 1927, marks the birthdate of one of my all-time favourite ballerinas! She’s so very famous – her name, you just have to know it!

Let me tell you about her. Margot Fonteyn was an iconic ballerina! Her dance moves? They were a vision of grace and beauty. I simply had to pop into my time machine and catch one of her performances.

There was something about Margot Fonteyn and those beautiful, perfectly tailored tutus, that truly made her the iconic ballerina she became. You can’t even imagine the joy of seeing her, in a magnificent full-length tutu, whirl across the stage. She would even slip on an adorable short tutu, the shorter style had just come into fashion and boy did she make them work! She was so captivating, and you could just tell that her tutu was just made for her. Margot, truly a ballerina legend in the making!

To see her performance was, let's just say, divine. A perfect ballet tutu is meant for showing off those incredible ballet steps. And I just know she’ll be rocking her pink tutu in heaven! I'm sure she’s showing all the other ballet dancers, heaven's dancers, how to make those tutus dance with them. And if they get too busy, I'm there, just me in a tutu, waiting in the wings, ready to do a show! 💫
