#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1927! (Post #4986)

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your pink tutu-loving time traveller extraordinaire, bringing you another dose of Ballet Tutu History for #TutuTuesday! Today we're going on a whimsical adventure back to July 19th, 1927!

Now, you might be thinking, 1927? Wasn't that a time of flappers and bobbed hair? Absolutely! And, believe it or not, the ballet world was also changing in ways we can still see today.

A Time of Change for the Ballet

Think about the "ballet" of that time – stiff, elaborate costumes, and stories straight out of classical myths. Well, that was all starting to change! It was the time of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The influence of this influential company was changing the entire aesthetic of dance, including, of course, the costumes. Think colour! Think movement! And think, yes, tutus, but not your classic puffy ones. The Ballets Russes were ushering in a new age of form-fitting, streamlined tutus. It was an exciting time for all things dance, with the spotlight on innovation and creativity.

My Travels and Tutus

Speaking of creativity, you might be wondering how I actually make my time-traveling dream a reality! Well, aside from the magic of my own tutu-wielding powers (don't ask!), I earn my passage through the time vortex by dancing! Yep, I love performing ballet – be it street shows, a dazzling theatre performance, or a local gala, I always make sure I can snag a bit of funding for my next grand tour. The good news is, there are tons of gorgeous vintage shops and amazing designers all through time who adore my style! The pink tutus I wear, combined with some antique accessories, help me blend in perfectly, so I can get up close and personal with the fascinating world of ballet history.

1927 in Paris: The City of Light and Dance

Today, we're finding ourselves in Paris – oh, the romance! – a city truly alive with music, theatre, and, of course, ballet. My time here so far has been filled with dazzling performances at the Grand Opera, strolling down the Champs-Γ‰lysΓ©es in my perfect pink tutu, and sipping coffee at quaint cafes with the scent of freshly baked croissants in the air.

The city's air hums with the energy of the arts. You can truly feel the artistic spirit buzzing, with exhibitions everywhere and vibrant street performers captivating passersby with their grace. It's simply a treat for the senses, and my tutu just shines in this inspiring backdrop!

A Little History:

Imagine it – July 19th, 1927. A date, now sadly forgotten, but once a bustling day in the world of ballet! Here in Paris, dancers would have been prepping for a show – maybe even for a new Diaghilev production! The music would have been filled with the intoxicating sounds of Stravinsky, the air charged with a sense of artistic energy, and everyone would have been giddy with the excitement of it all!

Tutues – a History of Innovation:

Back to our tutus, though – I've noticed a trend in 1927! Many tutus were taking inspiration from the Roaring Twenties! You could say it was "Art Deco meets ballet." Geometric patterns were adorning the tutus – imagine squares, diamonds, even the infamous ziggurat design, but in graceful ballet fabric! Some tutus even boasted a touch of metal, making them shine with a cool modernity, even while twirling with captivating beauty. And, my favourite – I found some absolutely darling ones in bold pink!

A Dream for a World in Pink Tutus

Let me tell you, it's thrilling to witness how tutus have evolved over the years! And each style tells a story, a story that dances with passion and creativity. I, for one, believe that tutus can be much more than a costume – they can be a statement! And it's my aim in life to bring a touch of that graceful elegance, that carefree charm, to the entire world. What better way to spread this joy than to inspire everyone to don a pink tutu at least once?

Keep an eye out for my next #TutuTuesday blog, where I'll take you on another exciting adventure through time. Until then, keep dancing!

Love and twirls,

Emma
