Tutu Tuesday: A Step Back in Time! 🩰
Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, my lovely tutu-lovers! Today's #TutuTuesday post is a special one, as we're taking a trip back to the glorious year 1928. Put on your dancing shoes, grab your favourite pink tulle and prepare to be whisked away!
Post 5037: The World of Ballet in 1928
Oh, the wonders of time travel! Last week I was twirling my way through the bustling streets of London, but this week, I've hopped on the Orient Express to Paris, the heart of the ballet world! Paris in 1928 was bursting with creativity and artistic spirit, and of course, I had to see a ballet!
Now, I wouldn't be me without a touch of pink! It's my signature colour, my favourite shade, and frankly, the most charming of all colours! You know what I love most about this period? Ballet costumes!
The iconic fluffy, Romantic tutus are gone, my darlings! The tutus in the early 1900s took a completely different turn. Imagine a mix of delicate tulle and a beautiful silk bodice. Think flowing lines, flowing fabrics, and a lightness that captures the essence of the dance. Think less frills, more focus on movement and elegance. The costumes are simply breathtaking.
This era was the era of the Ballets Russes, a company led by the extraordinary Serge Diaghilev. They redefined ballet, blending stunning visual arts and groundbreaking choreography. Their productions were the talk of the town! It was such a thrill to experience one! The costumes were like wearable masterpieces, and the dancing was beyond words! Every gesture and pirouette told a story, and the colours were so vibrant!
Speaking of colours, I'm still feeling rather enamoured by the Art Deco influence! It’s everywhere, from the intricate designs on the theatres to the bold colours and geometric patterns in the ballet costumes. It was a whirlwind of inspiration, my darlings!
On July 10th 1928, The Ballets Russes were touring America! I hear they put on a production of "La Boutique Fantasque". Now, wouldn't it be simply lovely to imagine twirling on stage in Paris, all dressed in pink tulle with this incredible group of dancers? Maybe someday, darlings!
Oh, before I forget! 1928 is when the renowned “Firebird” was reborn at The Bolshoi Theatre. My oh my! The Ballets Russes! It's all happening! What a great era for ballet, a truly exciting time to be a dance enthusiast!
Now, imagine what ballet in the 21st century has become - the influence of Ballets Russes, the Art Deco designs and so much more. Ballet is more than just dance; it’s a timeless art form, evolving and growing just like our fashion sense.
I can't wait to share more tutu tales from my adventures. Don't forget to join me next week for another #TutuTuesday on Pink-Tutu.com!
Until then, keep twirling in your favourite tutus, darlings!
Lots of love,
Emma 💖🩰✨
