#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through 1928! (Post #5053)

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things pink and tutu-licious! Today, we’re whisking ourselves back in time, all the way to the roaring 20s. Imagine the flapper dresses, the Charleston, and a whole lot of jazz! I just love the energy of this era, it's just so exciting. This week's #TutuTuesday is all about exploring how ballet tutus evolved in 1928. So, put on your favourite pink tutu, grab a cuppa, and join me on a journey through time!

A Trip To Paris

Now, Paris is, as we all know, the city of love, the city of fashion, and naturally, the city of ballet! As a seasoned time-travelling ballerina, I always start my historical explorations here. So, grab your little black book of train tickets and imagine we're pulling into the Gare du Nord, all the while looking resplendent in my delightful hot pink tutu. Imagine the elegant Parisians whispering about this colourful British fashion statement.

It’s a vibrant day in the city of lights, and I’m making my way straight to the Opera Garnier, the iconic Palais Garnier, for a real Parisian ballet treat. Stepping inside the magnificent building, you just know you're in for a theatrical extravaganza.

Ballet on the Big Stage

As a professional ballerina, the most thrilling part is seeing the breathtaking ballerinas take to the stage. The spotlight hits them as they rise en pointe in their ethereal tulle skirts. Oh, the elegance! The sheer beauty! Each pirouette, every graceful leap is a spectacle to behold.

It's interesting to note, 1928 was a time of significant change in ballet, especially the tutus! The Romantic era tutus, those long, flowing gowns that swirled around the ballerinas like wispy clouds, were slowly making way for shorter, tighter tutus that showcased the dancer’s athleticism. We’re seeing a transition to more streamlined tutus, emphasizing their incredible physical abilities and creating a fresh, energetic look on stage. It was almost as if the tutus themselves were doing the Charleston!

A Shop 'til You Drop Excursion

After the ballet, of course, one must go shopping! Paris is brimming with fabulous boutiques, showcasing the very latest in Parisian fashion. The designs are daring, playful and so incredibly stylish, and just waiting to be paired with my fabulous tutu, adding an extra touch of ballerina magic!

From feather boas and beaded dresses to the latest headbands and even those first “flapper” dresses – ah, the freedom of the fashion! I pick up a delicate pair of pearl earrings and a slinky dress to wear this evening, topped off, naturally, with a fabulously bright pink feather boa. Paris in the 1920s - there's simply nowhere else to be!

Tutus Everywhere!

You might be wondering, what about ballet tutus back then? Well, my dear readers, in 1928, tutus weren't just for ballerinas on stage anymore! Ballet was growing in popularity, and you could find ballet classes in studios all over Paris and other cities across Europe, inspiring young ladies like myself with dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. These classes were becoming quite the social scene - a gathering of girls with big dreams in those perfectly pleated, fluffy pink and white tutus.

Now, remember my mission to get everyone in a pink tutu? My vision in this era? To bring back that romantic, sweeping tutu! Imagine all those elegant ladies waltzing through the city streets in glorious fluffy tutus, with a hint of that iconic flapper flair, oh la la!

A Touch of Derbyshire Back in Paris

Even in this sophisticated Parisian setting, my heart never strays far from the lovely rolling hills of Derbyshire, where I hail from. In those countryside lanes, tucked away from the bustle of Parisian life, my imagination danced with visions of graceful ballerinas twirling through fields of daisies and vibrant lavender. Those vivid, joyful colours inspire me to find a new kind of ballet fashion - perhaps one that combines the sleek elegance of Paris with the simple beauty of the English countryside. Imagine: a bright pink tutu with lavender-coloured embroidery and delicate daisy motifs - oh the beauty!
