Tutu Tuesday: A Step Back in Time - #5063

Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Tuesday, and you know what that means - it's time for another jaunt into the history of our beloved tutus! This week, I'm stepping back to January 8th, 1929, a time of roaring twenties glamour and dance. Now, don't worry, I haven't left my pink tutu behind – it's perfect for the vintage chic look!

Imagine it: flapper dresses swaying with every beat of the Charleston, Art Deco shimmering from every corner, and, of course, graceful ballerinas twirling in their stunning tutus. I was in Paris, my dears, and the air was buzzing with creativity and the spirit of change. The ballet world was booming – everyone was embracing the exciting innovations of the early 20th century.

So, what was going on with the tutus in 1929? Let's delve into a few key trends:

  • The rise of the Romantic Tutu: A time when ballerina tutus started to embody the idea of airiness and lightness – think soft tulle, shorter lengths, and the perfect combination of femininity and strength. Imagine the elegance of a beautiful ballerina gliding through the air in this light, floaty style! It truly captures the magic of dance.

  • The influence of fashion: Oh, darling, those flapper dresses and loose silhouettes! The fashion of the day had a big influence on ballet, bringing about shorter tutus, more elaborate embroidery, and even the inclusion of beaded embellishments. You can see a bit of the roaring 20s attitude peeking out from under that tulle!

  • A world of colours: The 1920s saw a whole palette of colours come to the fore in the world of ballet tutus, but let’s be honest, nothing beats a gorgeous pink tutu! We all know the ultimate tutu shade! I saw stunning creations in emerald green, azure blue, and even deep burgundy.

But the highlight of my Parisian journey this week was undoubtedly seeing Diaghilev's Ballets Russes! The grand dame of ballet, the company that made dance history and set new standards of beauty, creativity, and theatricality, they were truly ahead of their time. Their innovative costumes, including stunning, dramatic tutus, still inspire designers and ballerinas to this day.

And now, let's talk about me, because after all, I'm the pink tutu wearing, travel enthusiast of the bunch! It’s fascinating to see how fashion has always intertwined with dance, a world I adore. But, to get to this charming Paris of 1929, you know how I do it! (It wouldn't be the first time someone has looked at me as I step out of a vintage train compartment at the Gare du Nord, clad in a shimmering pink tutu!) I use my love of the dance for time travel! Yes, I give performances in my many different travels and, with the proceeds from these magical nights, I can go back in time. I guess it’s a dance to earn my freedom and to explore different tutus through different ages. What an absolute dream!

*Fashion Tip: * Remember those glorious beaded details we mentioned? Embrace them, dear friends! You can add a touch of vintage glamour to any of your tutu outfits with some sparkling, shimmering beads. And who better to take style tips from than someone travelling through the 20th century, rocking a pink tutu?

As for me, my lovelies, I'll be hopping back onto that glamorous train in a flash to go on another dance journey – maybe a tango in Argentina in 1938? It’s hard to say but it’ll definitely be a fabulous journey!
