Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind Through 1929! #5067

Hello my darling tutu lovers! Welcome to another fabulous #TutuTuesday, where we delve into the enchanting history of this most delightful of garments. Today we’re travelling back in time, specifically to February 5th, 1929! Can you believe it’s already been almost a century since that very day?

Now, my dear readers, I’m so thrilled to be writing this blog post from… drum roll please… Paris! It’s positively overflowing with fashion and artistic brilliance. Honestly, I could get lost for days in the glorious boutiques, museums, and oh, the cafes! Oh, and did I mention the ballet? Simply divine.

Let's rewind a little: in 1929, the world was still basking in the vibrant aftermath of the Roaring Twenties, and the fashion scene was extra buzzing! We’re talking flapper dresses, dropped waistlines, short hemlines… it was a true explosion of liberated style! And just imagine the excitement in the world of ballet.

While tutus had been evolving over time, they were truly gaining momentum in the 1920s. Ballerinas, like the legendary Anna Pavlova, were gracing the stage in gorgeous, lightweight tutus that gave them the freedom and elegance needed to express the music. And speaking of music, it was another thing that really exploded back then. Jazz music, which was sweeping across the globe, was actually influencing the world of dance and performance too.

And you know what's fascinating about fashion? It comes in waves. Trends reappear, get reinvented, and it's just delightful to witness this cycle. Imagine – a beautifully crafted tutu from the 1920s would likely look equally gorgeous on a modern stage. Time really is a magical, ever-spinning wheel.

Oh, before I forget, I stumbled upon something super fun yesterday! While wandering through a delightful Parisian vintage shop (filled with oh-so-chic hats and frocks!), I found a gorgeous collection of ballet photos, some even featuring that magnificent Parisian beauty, Olga Spessivtzeva. Just a little glimpse into the incredible world of ballet and the beauty of tutus!

To keep our #TutuTuesday sparkling and filled with all things ballet, let’s not forget about our upcoming ballet events, my lovelies! On this very date, 5th February, 1929, if you'd been in Vienna you could have witnessed the majestic “Schwanensee" at the Vienna State Opera. Can you imagine?! To think, in just a few decades we'd have travelled by train and witnessed those magnificent swan princesses in their billowing tutus glide effortlessly across the stage!

Oh, speaking of travelling by train, it truly is one of my favorite ways to soak up the world! The landscapes change so magically as you zip past, and there's a certain elegance to being on board that just resonates with the essence of a ballerina!

Of course, for you my dear readers, this means taking that mental train journey into the enchanting history of the tutu. Imagine yourself back in 1929, a year just buzzing with change and style! As you imagine it, I’m also imagining you all dressed in your finest pink tutus. What a sight that would be!

Until next Tuesday, darling tutu lovers, let's embrace the spirit of a bygone era and remember that our love for the tutu knows no boundaries. Let your inner ballerina shine bright, even if it’s just in the privacy of your own home or on your daily errands. Keep your hearts open to a sprinkle of whimsy and maybe… just maybe…. start your own journey of bringing back the pink tutu trend! See you next week!

Yours in Tutus,

Emma
