#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past - March 12th, 1929!

Dearest tutu lovers! It’s me, Emma, your time-traveling fashionista and self-proclaimed pink tutu ambassador, bringing you another dose of tutu history for #TutuTuesday! I’m absolutely bursting with excitement to take you all on a trip back to March 12th, 1929, for this week's edition of Blog Post Number 5072. My goodness, I just can’t believe how quickly time flies!

Now, onto our little time trip, shall we? It’s always exciting to go back to a time when the world was a little bit more… well, frilly. Imagine – 1929 – a time before those pesky skinny jeans! Why, all the ladies were rocking the finest silks and the grandest gowns, the world was just bursting with romance. And yes, I know you all are itching to hear about the tutus! Oh, how we are in for a treat. The world of ballet, at this point in time, was just starting to bloom, my darlings! Ballet was reaching its grand peak and captivating everyone with its sheer beauty and magic. Russia had taken the world by storm with its graceful artistry. Ballet shoes, which have become our darling friends in recent decades, were only starting to appear on stages across the globe, and of course, in beautiful Paris, the tutus were already reaching an almost mythical level of sheer elegance! Imagine delicate silk, meticulously stitched together with careful, hand-placed, hand-sewn details – absolute magic!

Ah, I can practically see it all: the Grand Theatre in Paris, full to the brim with the crème de la crème of Parisian society. The ladies, adorned in their most elegant evening wear, swooning at every pirouette. A sea of white gloves applauding fervently at each flawless leap, every graceful extension, and each perfectly timed pas de bourrée. Yes, 1929 was truly a magical time, wouldn't you agree?

As for today’s date – March 12th, 1929 – I bet you didn’t know, dear readers, that this was the very same day a little ballerina, I’m talking about a small child mind you, stepped on a stage for the first time and was crowned a future superstar! * What a remarkable day! Her name was *Irina Baronova, and she was born a whole year after the year we’ve travelled back to - just think of all the memories she must have made on that day! It truly was a time to be a ballerina, you can just feel the passion in the air, my loves!

You know me, my heart just beats for beautiful dresses, my darling readers, so naturally I had to look at what the fashion scene had in store! Oh, and guess what? 1929 saw a fashion explosion! This year, the era of “The Flapper” had just passed. We're talking dresses that dropped to the knees or even slightly above the knee – a radical concept at the time! The style of these little dresses had started getting less intricate and embraced simplicity and flowy textures instead, allowing ladies to move with ease. They weren’t all about restrictive corsetry anymore! Talk about a dream! This shift paved the way for women's newfound liberation, the perfect time to wear your tutu, don’t you think, darlings? It was a wonderful celebration of elegance with just the right amount of playful ease!

It truly is all about the delicate interplay between beauty, strength, and elegance. After all, my dears, a ballerina needs a dancewear collection that mirrors their style: elegance, flow, grace, and perhaps a little bit of playful naughtiness – always, darling readers, always a little bit of playful naughtiness!

And while I’m absolutely positively swooning over everything, we can’t forget about our lovely accessories. You simply cannot imagine the incredible hats they had back then! Feathers and floral accents adorned the hair of fashionable ladies, they truly completed every ensemble, adding a certain charm that truly enhanced their beauty, creating a style so striking and dramatic! We mustn’t forget about the jewels, too.

Now, where is my little pink tutu going next, you might be wondering? It's hard to choose! Do you think we should go to Derbyshire, England, my little stomping grounds, or maybe back to the vibrant Parisian streets?

Or how about a lovely Victorian Garden Party? Do we head back to a beautiful London gathering with elegant gentlemen, fine gentlemen, with beautiful wives who always have their favorite, hand-picked rose adorning their bodice, or do we try out the St. Petersburg Bolshoi Ballet? How glamorous does that sound? Perhaps a stroll around the city while we admire the iconic Bolshoi Ballet theatre? Oh, the sheer decadence!

Darling readers, just a little reminder to always remember your tutu dreams! I always believe in dressing up, wearing your favorite tutu, and indulging in everything that makes your heart sing with happiness!

Until next Tuesday!

Stay fabulous! Love,

Emma xxx
