Tutu Tuesday #5091: Back to the Roaring Twenties!

Hello my darling tutu enthusiasts! It’s Emma here, back from another thrilling trip through time – this week, I found myself in the captivating year 1929, right in the heart of the glamorous Roaring Twenties. I simply couldn’t resist slipping on my own fetching pink tutu and soaking up the energy of this fashion-forward era!

It's absolutely fascinating how ballet and fashion intertwined back then. Imagine, Paris, the global capital of haute couture! Every Parisian woman dreamt of the latest designs, and the influence of the ballet was everywhere. Think delicate lace, silk and flowing lines – it was all about creating a sense of lightness and grace, echoing the movements of a ballerina on stage.

The tutus of the 1920s were quite different from what we see today. You wouldn't find the billowing romantic skirts of the late Romantics or the romantic Romantic ballerinas! Instead, it was all about streamlined silhouettes, short, tight skirts with delicate, intricate details, sometimes even a little peek of leg! Imagine a dancer gracefully leaping, her elegant legs glinting in the spotlight - quite alluring, wasn’t it?

You might be wondering, “But Emma, where does the tutus fit into all this?” Oh darling, the ballet was experiencing a real boom in this period! New ballets like “The Sleeping Beauty” and “The Nutcracker”, with their intricate tutus and intricate dance movements, captured the public's imagination. You'd find a flurry of excitement, packed audiences, and glittering chandeliers adorning the ballet theatres across Europe. Imagine, stepping into a grand opera house, the air filled with music and anticipation, surrounded by stunning costumes – a real treat for the eyes!

Of course, I wouldn’t have missed the chance to see a ballet performance, and it truly transported me to another world! Watching those delicate ballerinas pirouette and leap in their beautiful costumes, their every movement flowing and captivating – a magical experience! Afterwards, I absolutely had to wander through the grand boulevards of Paris, and oh, the fashion! Women flaunting their fashionable frocks – a tapestry of beautiful shades, exquisite textures, and captivating silhouettes, truly a visual feast!

But it wasn’t just about the fashion! My darling, on July 23rd, 1929, a piece of ballet history was made! A young, talented dancer, the incomparable Tamara Karsavina, received the LĂ©gion d'honneur! Imagine, a prestigious award from the French government recognising her exceptional contribution to the art of dance. It truly underlined the incredible significance of the ballet within French society.

Of course, I had to indulge in a spot of vintage shopping - and trust me, I found a few absolute treasures, a lovely pair of vintage dance shoes and a few stylish accessories that will definitely find a place in my next Tutu Tuesday outfit!

Now, darling, it’s your turn. Why don’t you try out a little fashion inspiration from this era? A touch of vintage elegance can really make you stand out. A dash of lace here, a little silk there - go on, add a bit of a twist to your own unique look. Remember, don't forget your inner ballerina, she deserves to twirl and shine, and why not - a hint of pink to celebrate Tutu Tuesday, darling!

And just remember, if you ever need to step away from the mundane and be transported to another era, just slip on your favorite tutu, darling! You can embrace your inner ballerina, explore the past, and enjoy a beautiful moment of pure joy. Until next week, I wish you a joyous Tutu Tuesday!

Love,

Emma x
