Tutu Tuesday: #5132 – A Twirl Back in Time to 1930!

Hey gorgeous twirlers! It's Emma here, back with another #TutuTuesday for your pink-tutu-loving hearts! As always, we're stepping back in time, this week journeying all the way back to 1930 – what a fabulous era for fashion, and ballet of course!

Ooh, Fancy A Ride On The Orient Express?

This week I'm hopping on the Orient Express - that's right, folks, a glamorous train journey through Europe, all in a magnificent pink tutu, of course! My journey's taken me straight to the heart of ballet history in Paris, and believe me, my tutu is making quite the stir.

Paris: A City of Tutu Delights!

The ballet scene in Paris was bursting with excitement in 1930. Imagine it, darling – cobbled streets lined with exquisite boutiques filled with the latest designs, stunning theatres humming with the magic of classical ballet, and oh, the amazing tutu creations! I feel like I’ve just stepped out of a painting by Edgar Degas, all swirling skirts and graceful lines.

The Story of The Tutu... A Blast From The Past!

Now, my loves, let's talk tutus! 1930 was a pivotal time in ballet history, a period of experimentation and bold evolution. Back then, the "Romantic" tutu reigned supreme – a soft, ethereal cloud of tulle that whispered elegance and floated with every graceful turn. It wasn't the short, fitted tutu we see in classical ballet today, but a dramatic cascade of fabric that allowed for beautiful extensions and oh-so-much-twirling!

Imagine my delight when I visited the world-renowned Paris Opera Ballet to see the breathtaking "La Sylphide!" The iconic ballerina, Olga Spessivtzeva, twirled across the stage, the Romantic tutu billowing around her like a cloud of pink perfection! Just divine!

From The Ballet to the Streets: Fashion Influences!

It's no secret that the elegance of ballet is a powerful influence on fashion, and 1930 was no exception! The Romantic tutu inspired the "flapper" style – short dresses with dropped waists, flowing fabrics, and a little hint of rebellious flair. Even the use of sequins and glitter on our beloved tutus was a big fashion trend!

Can you imagine, my dears, how amazing it would have been to shop at Parisian boutiques with tutus inspiring everything around us?! Talk about some serious style inspiration! The way those beautiful ladies dressed was so chic! I bet they knew exactly what to wear to a fancy tea party!

What’s New For The Tutu Of 1930?

The 1930s introduced some pretty fascinating changes to the ballet world! For instance, have you ever seen a tutu with feathers? Well, I just adore the idea! This time period saw a trend towards incorporating feather accents to create even more captivating effects on stage. What a dream, isn’t it? A sparkling tutu with delicate feathers, fluttering gracefully in the stage lights.

And don’t even get me started on the gorgeousness of pink satin tutus! Such elegance! Just picture a ballerina twirling in the light of the stage – so magical! I’m not surprised everyone was mesmerised by this new way of performing in the world of ballet, the dresses were breathtaking.

My Day At The Moulin Rouge

And darling, how can I leave Paris without visiting the Moulin Rouge?! That legendary Parisian cabaret! Such a riot of colour, music, and captivating dance. It was like a party straight from my dreams, all sparkles, feathers, and those beautiful can-can girls twirling in their fringe-adorned costumes, their skirts swirling with such passion!

As you all know, I'm a big fan of incorporating some “tutu” inspired fashion pieces into my everyday life. This trip has sparked some delightful inspiration, I can already see a pink, feathery evening clutch being part of my look, perhaps with a little delicate satin embellishment on the bag? Oh my! * What a dream combination!**

1930 Was An Extraordinary Time For The Tutu

Today, as we enjoy the elegance of modern ballet, let’s take a moment to celebrate the exquisite evolution of the tutu and its captivating impact on the world of fashion. Just as much as we admire ballet today, in all its flamboyance and beauty, so did the ballet world 93 years ago.

This is how we will continue our trip through history as I embark on a new ballet adventure, maybe we’ll be dancing through time with Gene Kelly in the 1950s soon… Who knows?!

Don’t forget, dear friends! You can find me over on our website at www.pink-tutu.com every week for my next #TutuTuesday post. Until then, twirl your way through the world with confidence and spread the joy of pink tutus everywhere! And let's never stop celebrating the power of this remarkable symbol of grace, elegance, and – let’s not forget! - fashion!

See you all next week!

Yours in Tutu, Emma
