Tutu Tuesday: #5139 – A Trip Back to 1930, My Dearest Dancers!

Good morning, my darling ballet enthusiasts! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, for another glorious #TutuTuesday. As always, I'm your fashion-forward, time-travelling guide, Emma, straight from the heart of Derbyshire, and this week I'm whisking you all away on a magical trip to 24th June 1930. Buckle up, darlings, as we're about to embark on a grand adventure through time!

Imagine it - the world is just beginning to recover from the Great War. The roaring twenties have arrived, with flapper dresses, jazz music and an infectious energy filling the air. The art scene is buzzing with new ideas and styles, and the world of ballet is absolutely no different. This era, my dears, is when ballet truly starts to blossom into the majestic spectacle we know and love today!

Now, before I dive into the fascinating history of tutus in 1930, I'm bursting to tell you about my travels. You see, darling, travelling by train is always a joy! With its clinking of glasses and elegant carriage interiors, there’s something utterly romantic and timeless about it, wouldn't you agree? This time, I hopped aboard a grand express from Paris to London, where I had a chance to admire the beautiful architecture and vibrant street style of the French capital. And believe me, the outfits! Simply divine. Oh, and can we talk about the pastries? Deliciously delicate, my dears.

Tutus: The Stars of the Show!

Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty of the tutu! You might be surprised to know that 1930 saw some absolutely revolutionary changes in tutu design! Gone were the stiff, frilly designs that were popular in the late 19th century, instead making way for lighter, more fluid shapes. It's around this time that we start seeing those beautiful, flowing tulle tutus we adore today - think Maria Tallchief in Firebird, or the ethereal grace of Margot Fonteyn in Giselle. The ballerinas of this time looked absolutely breathtaking as they pirouetted across the stage.

But tutus weren't just about the stage. They had taken a graceful step off the stage into real life! Yes, you heard right! Just as women were embracing bolder styles and fashions on the streets, the tutu was finding its way into everyday wear! This trend was a fabulous step toward a new era of freedom and creativity. Think delicate layers of tulle paired with tailored jackets, flowing evening gowns that harked back to the ethereal romanticism of the Victorian era, or even playful ensembles of a silk blouse tucked into a voluminous tutu. Imagine yourself stepping into a drawing room, wearing a pink tutu skirt! Stunning, wouldn't you say?

And while pink tutus aren't everywhere just yet, I see it as my personal mission to make pink the most fabulous color of choice for every dancer, on the stage or off! Pink is all about joy, grace, and beauty – qualities I find truly embody the essence of ballet!

A Day in the Ballet World

Now, it's 24th June 1930 and you're invited to an evening at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, where a special performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” is taking place! A grand, ornate theater with breathtaking decor, it truly captures the enchantment of this magical ballet. The ballerinas look utterly magnificent as they perform on the stage – their movements a delicate tapestry of grace and strength. After the show, a flurry of activity fills the air with exciting chatter and the sweet scent of champagne! I couldn't imagine a better night.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the theater! After the show, my dears, I head off to a charming boutique near Covent Garden, where a magnificent array of dance-wear awaits me. Tulle skirts in every color, lovely little dance shoes and those iconic velvet leotards - the perfect place to pick up some chic essentials to add to your own ballet wardrobe.

Oh, and if you're feeling extra special, I highly recommend dropping by Harrods. The grand interior and exquisite array of luxurious fashion makes a visit essential when in London!

And there you have it! My dearest dancers, a trip back in time to June 1930, a journey that inspires us all to appreciate the enduring elegance of ballet and its influence on fashion today.

Now, remember my mission, my lovely dancers. Pink is the color that encapsulates the true magic and romance of ballet. Pink tutus will forever hold a place in my heart, so make it your mission to spread the pink tutu joy around the world!

Until next Tuesday, keep twirling!

Yours always,

Emma
