#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: A Whirl Through the 1930s!
Hello my darling dears, and welcome to #TutuTuesday! This week, I'm taking us back in time, back to the dazzling 1930s. I've been flitting through history and it's simply brimming with amazing ballet, stunning fashion, and so much romance! Today's date is July 8th, 1930, a day that's already full of such magic - can you believe it?!
As you know, this little pink-tutu-clad historian is obsessed with tutus, and honestly, the 1930s were an absolutely splendid time for them! The tutus in this decade are full of exquisite detail - picture shimmering tulle, beautiful embroidery, and delicate hand-stitching that would make any ballerina’s heart skip a beat! The shape is just divine. Full and fluffy, they create a dreamy and ethereal look. Picture dancers like Alicia Markova or the lovely Margot Fonteyn, spinning and leaping across the stage in these magical tutus – absolutely dreamy, isn't it?
Fashion That Flies: The 1930s & Chic StyleOh, how the 1930s were the perfect mix of elegant and fun! For our fashionable little ballerina souls, it was an absolute gold mine of sartorial delights.
Imagine walking into a tea shop, all silk stockings and long, flowing skirts that gently sweep across the floor. We're talking about a world where feather boas were all the rage! Now, my dearest readers, you know how much I adore boas, they add such a touch of glam and playfulness. Then there were those exquisite cloche hats - perfect for showcasing a lovely new hatpin or a feather adorned with dazzling beads!
Ballet's Ballroom: Where the Magic HappensOh, speaking of glamorous details, wouldn't you just love to be a part of the ballet scene in the 1930s? Ballet in this decade wasn't just dancing; it was a way of life! And it's easy to see why! We're talking about magnificent venues like the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London - think elegant staircases, rich fabrics, and enough sparkle to make a mermaid blush. Ballet, my dears, was a world where everyone danced, dressed, and moved with grace.
Backstage with the Ballet Stars
Think about the ballets you see now - the leaps, the pirouettes, the stories they tell. Now imagine how those iconic steps were perfected by the ballets of the 1930s! The ballerinas of the time, their steps were like brushstrokes of perfection! Remember, we're still talking about the "Golden Age of Ballet!" You can see these influences everywhere in the ballets you enjoy today. Just imagine: The leaps that started with legendary ballerinas of the era like Alicia Markova or Margot Fonteyn, they are the same graceful moves that ballerinas like Misty Copeland are using in modern times! Isn’t that a wonder of continuity?
