#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Pink Peek at 1930-10-14! 🩰💖

Hey gorgeous tutu lovers!

Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things twirly and pink. Today marks another glorious #TutuTuesday and I'm so excited to delve into the fascinating history of the ballet tutu - because let's face it, a world without tutus would be a terribly dull one, wouldn't it?

Today, we're journeying back to October 14th, 1930, a day when tutus were already captivating the world with their grace and elegance. Now, I must confess, getting my time travel train ticket to 1930 was a bit tricky this week, especially with the sheer volume of wonderful ballets on in London right now! (More on that later, darling!)

As always, let's rewind the clock and discover where we are with the tutu...

1930s: The Rise of the Romantic Tutu

This era saw the ballet world fully embracing the Romantic tutu – those light-as-a-feather creations made of tulle that simply whispered dreamy. Picture a vision of sheer, ethereal beauty that dances like a cloud on the stage - pure magic! Think delicate layers of tulle, often white or pastel hues, skimming the ankles for a look of both airy lightness and effortless elegance.

Imagine, dear readers, a dancer whirling on stage, her tulle swirling and billowing with every graceful pirouette, catching the stage lights in a magical, ethereal glow. It's enough to make you wish you were up there, right?

And oh my goodness, the costumes! The fashion designers of the time were absolutely working their magic. I was lucky enough to attend a production of Swan Lake last week. Oh, those graceful swan-like silhouettes, all white tulle and flowing silk. Simply exquisite.

But 1930s fashion wasn't all about classical elegance. Let's not forget about ballet's daring street-style trend! It was practically a scandal that we were now seeing women taking those elegant tutu looks, with their layers and billows of tulle, right into the street! And can I just say... the boldness of it all? A vision of colour and movement! It's clear, my darlings, that women in the 1930s weren't afraid to stand out and flaunt their inner ballerina, on and off the stage. It's truly a revolutionary time!

Where We're At Today:

So, we’re sitting pretty at 1930, with our beautiful tutus firmly established on both the ballet stage and the streets, and you can be sure, darlings, this is just the beginning. As you know, I'm a firm believer that the tutu’s potential is boundless. My aim in life, you see, is to make the world a more glamorous place with the pink tutu as our glorious guiding star!

And speaking of glamour… oh, the London ballet scene is positively buzzing right now! From Covent Garden’s spectacular shows, to the smaller theatres showcasing hidden talent - it's an absolute dream! I saw Diaghilev's latest creation – The Firebird – last week. Honestly, dear readers, you must make it to the next showing, it's dazzling! And those costumes! Let’s just say Diaghilev truly understands how to transform dancers into birds of paradise, even incorporating beautiful coloured feathered boas. Just stunning.

Fashion Fix:

Speaking of colour and boas, a visit to Harrods yesterday left me utterly spellbound! Imagine rows upon rows of luxurious feathers in every colour imaginable! Feathers, oh darling, are a must this season. Imagine draping a soft white boa over your elegant little black dress – pure glamour, don't you think? It's all about playing with contrasts, with delicate tulle contrasting with those sumptuous feathers – simply exquisite.

Of course, Harrods always has a gorgeous selection of pink tutus to complement any outfit. (There is no occasion for which a pink tutu is not suitable, remember!). I bought a lovely rose pink tulle tutu, perfectly suitable for the Autumn.

A Journey Ahead:

And you know, my dears, a grand adventure awaits! Tomorrow, I embark on a train journey back to my beloved Derbyshire countryside! It's a chance to leave the buzz of the London scene behind for a few days. But let's be honest, you just can't take the tutu out of a girl! The journey's going to be full of fashion inspiration, from the lady's compartment, to the platforms, even the station cafe will get a Pink-Tutu makeover, watch this space, darling!

Toodle-oo for now!

P.S: Don't forget, dear reader, to grab yourself a pink tutu, or two (or ten, why not?)! There's nothing that says "you're absolutely fabulous!" more than a good ol' twirl in a pink tutu!

Don't forget to leave a comment and tell me what you're wearing today! Until next #TutuTuesday!
