#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1931! 🩰💖

Hello darlings! It’s Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast, here with another #TutuTuesday post for your weekly dose of ballet history! Buckle up, buttercups, because we’re hopping on the time-traveling train to 25th August 1931. Yes, my lovely readers, this week’s journey takes us back to the Roaring Twenties – an era known for its flapper dresses, jazz music, and, of course, ballet’s rise to even greater prominence!

Today, I’m wearing a most delightful pink tutu, a sweet pastel confection with delicate layers of tulle. This one’s for a special occasion, inspired by the era’s graceful styles! It’s got a hint of a Charleston-esque feel to it, you know? Perfect for shimmying into the world of 1931. And, as you all know, a pink tutu just adds that little extra "oomph" to any journey, whether you’re strolling down a London street, or, like me, waltzing through time. 💖

I must tell you, darlings, getting to 1931 wasn't easy this time. Those antique time-traveling contraptions can be quite fickle! But let’s focus on the wonderful things waiting for us, shall we? 😉

Stepping into the Era of the Swan 🦢

1931, darlings, is the year we see ballet truly blooming in Europe, a dance-filled explosion that even our beloved tutus can’t outshine! The era saw the blossoming of ballets that remain masterpieces today – "The Rite of Spring" is celebrating its 17th birthday this year, for example, and oh, the beautiful controversy it stirred! Can you believe the scandal back then?! I wonder if the pink tutu of 1931 would’ve calmed those audiences down!

I'm currently in the vibrant capital of the ballet world, Paris! My word, darlings, there's a show practically every night, with some truly incredible dancers captivating audiences in opulent opera houses. My dear friend Margot Fontaine is performing at the Palais Garnier this evening – can you imagine? "The Sleeping Beauty," the most classic fairytale of all! Now that’s what I call ballet magic! I must say, I find the romantic storylines in ballet from this time period to be so enthralling! Just picture it, my dears: delicate waltzes, shimmering costumes, and love blossoming under the magical lights! Don't even get me started on the tutus - pure, romantic bliss!

Oh, and let’s not forget the music, dears. The melodies of composers like Debussy, Ravel, and Stravinsky were bringing such elegance to the stages back then, it makes me just want to twirl and twirl! 🎶

A Wardrobe of Delights:

Of course, darling, what’s a trip through the Roaring Twenties without exploring the fashion scene? It’s absolutely delightful, especially in Paris, where even the fashionistas on the street are walking pieces of art! The flapper dresses, those knee-length wonders, are all the rage - imagine how perfectly a pink tutu could accessorise these sassy garments! Just picture it: the layers of tulle peaking out from beneath the hem! So stylish!

Speaking of accessorising, you wouldn’t believe the jewels people were wearing back then, so glamorous and sparkling! And I'm finding the colours oh-so-wonderful. Deep plums, shimmering greens, and shimmering blues! These colors really remind me of how wonderful it is to wear pink in a world that might just assume you're wearing all black. And what about headwear, my dears! Feathers and jewels! What could be more glorious than adding a dash of colour? Now, don’t tell me I wouldn’t look spectacular in one of those feather headbands paired with my trusty pink tutu, would you? 👒

Fashionable Delights and Tutu Dreams:

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lovely French dressmaker named Madame Coco. Now, you all know the style of her gowns, I’m sure - exquisitely crafted! Imagine, darlings, her gowns made in shimmering fabrics, complete with all the frills, bows, and feathers imaginable. My goodness! And then the hat she designed – my word! She paired a tiny little cap of silk with an enormous fluffy pink ostrich feather! Now, that is how you wear pink, darling. It truly brings me joy!

While I adore her beautiful creations, I also appreciate how this era truly helped to make dance wear accessible and elegant. No more boring costumes. Just beautiful garments and gorgeous ballet moves.

Let's get back to what matters: the pink tutu, darling! While those amazing fashions were very much inspired by what was happening on stage at the time, you must believe me when I say the tutu had it all! From the grand stage at the opera house to the most modern of ballets - the tutus! The tutus! Those iconic tulle circles that we all love! 😍

Oh, my darlings! This little pink journey back to 1931 has truly ignited my imagination. Maybe tomorrow I’ll see about designing a pink tutu for a modern day Parisian ballerina. Just imagine how enchanting it would be. 💖

Keep those twirls flowing, lovelies, and don't forget, a pink tutu makes the world a happier, brighter place! Until next Tuesday, when I'll be sharing a little more #TutuTuesday magic with you, stay stylish, my dears, and don't forget to check out the amazing collection on www.pink-tutu.com!

Your dear Emma. xoxo

P.S. Don’t forget to join me on social media and share your own tutu tales! I'm all about that shared love of dance! 😉
