Grab your teacups, your favourite pink lipstick, and get ready for a whirlwind trip through fashion, ballet, and all things utterly divine.
(This is blog post #5203, you can find all my other posts here at www.pink-tutu.com.)
Before we start our time travel adventure, let’s give a big bonjour to the exquisite ballet performances that are funding this exciting journey! This week I had the pleasure of seeing a stunning performance of "Swan Lake" in Paris - just divine! The elegance, the grace, the sheer ethereal beauty of it all, just perfectly reflected the romance and enchantment of this Parisian city. Oh, and the shopping afterwards - oh mon dieu, you wouldn’t believe the bejeweled tiaras and divine silk scarves I found in the quaint boutiques! It was enough to make any ballerina’s heart skip a beat!
Now, let’s journey back to September 15th, 1931. Oh, wouldn't you love to have gone to the opening night of The "Alice in Wonderland" film this week? The most exquisite stop motion animation by Walt Disney, what a revolutionary achievement! And talking about revolution, ballet itself was in a state of absolute upheaval at the time! A group of forward-thinking ballerinas were beginning to push the boundaries of traditional ballet, exploring new styles and expressions. I can just imagine them wearing breathtakingly stylish tutus, just waiting to be documented by someone with an eye for fashion, like yours truly.
Imagine, dear readers, being transported back to this period. What sights, sounds, and smells you would experience! Picture the scent of freshly baked pastries filling the air, the sight of the sleekest, most glamorous cars whizzing past on the streets, the bustling energy of the city – just divine!
Of course, this exciting journey can't be complete without delving into the fabulous world of fashion! It was in 1931 that the legendary Chanel designed her first collection of tailored sportswear, setting a whole new trend for women’s fashion. Picture yourself in those sleek and stylish suits, with their sharp cuts and modern silhouettes - imagine the freedom and confidence they radiated! Wouldn't it be simply brilliant to wear one with a perfectly contrasting, playful pink tutu on top? Now, that would be a statement, don't you think?
Fashion, though, is not all that awaits us in 1931! There were thrilling advances in technology too. Imagine a world where people travelled in sleek airships – what a wonderful way to arrive in a foreign land, gently gliding through the sky!
I’m so incredibly fortunate to get to travel through time, exploring history through the prism of ballet and fashion. Just remember, every adventure begins with a whimsical twirl. It doesn’t matter where your journey takes you, dear readers, make it yours.
But most importantly, dear readers, let's bring the tutu revolution to this time period. Imagine a whole city bustling with pink tutus, elegant ladies swishing down the streets like blooming rose petals on a gentle breeze. That's what we are here for, a world with more twirling, more grace, more smiles. It is simply delightful.
Now, before I jet off on my next grand adventure, let me leave you with this: If you’re passionate about fashion and dance, never hesitate to embrace the whimsical and the extraordinary. Remember, darling readers, you have the power to make your own little bit of magic!
Until next week, let's all twirl!
Love, Emma xx
P.S. I'm so thrilled to be working on a new blog post about how to sew your very own tutu, using vintage fabrics from 1931. Watch out for the tutorial, coming soon! It’s sure to be an absolute delight.
