#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – 19th January 1932 – Post #5221
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, bringing you another instalment of Ballet Tutu History for #TutuTuesday!
Today I’ve popped my time-machine into the magical world of 19th January 1932. Oh my, what a year for fashion and ballet, and let me tell you, a huge year for the tutu. Let's slip on our dancing shoes and sashay through history, shall we?
This week, I'm transported to Paris, France, the heart of ballet. There's no place I love to be more than Paris for a ballet enthusiast like me, especially in the 1930s, when ballet was undergoing such a fabulous transformation! Just think of all the wonderful fashion! Parisian fashion designers like Chanel, Lanvin and Schiaparelli were redefining chic, while our ballet stars were dazzling on stage in a real display of elegance and movement.
Let's dive into what's going on in the ballet world this week. First, imagine this: the 1932 premiere of Mozartiana! And can you guess who created this showstopping ballet? The legendary Sergei Diaghilev!
Oh, my darling readers! Diaghilev's Ballets Russes was such an era-defining force! I could talk about him for hours and still not tell you the half! From the groundbreaking choreography to the exquisitely detailed set designs, Diaghilev made a complete artistic vision with his every show. Every. Show! And oh! those ballerinas, with their beautiful tulle, perfectly highlighting their artistry – truly mesmerizing.
Of course, let’s not forget the dance itself! Ballet was shifting. Gone was the restrictive formality of earlier times. In its place was an exploration of movement and expression.
Imagine swirling across the stage, weightless and ethereal in your graceful tutu. That’s the feeling of the dance these Parisian ballerinas bring to life, you see? No wonder it captivated audiences and helped bring a wave of change to ballet worldwide.
The tutu of the moment…Imagine you are walking the streets of Paris in this vibrant year. You step out from a cozy Parisian cafe, onto the vibrant boulevard. What are the tutus that grace your eyes? You might see a classic romantic tutu, long and billowing, whispering a story of passion and beauty. A vision! Then, as you round the corner, you might be greeted by a bold, revolutionary, shorter tutu – revealing strong legs, captivating the eye with its simplicity. Voilà! * An icon of ballet and modern fashion in one fell swoop! These ballerinas are *living art! The grace, the drama, the elegance, the freedom - it's a beautiful whirlwind, don't you think?
But ballet is just the beginning! I'm also in Paris, ladies and gentlemen, to soak up some exquisite fashion! I just can't resist those gorgeous salons. Think flowing fabrics, feathers, jewels – this was truly the time when style and artistry collided beautifully. Let me tell you, the shops and markets are practically overflowing with inspiration – all colours, all textures – I've lost myself completely in the shops! My darling readers, my time-machine is filled with Parisian dresses and lovely shoes and - guess what? - a brand new, most exquisite pink tutu! My heart flutters just thinking about it. *Tutu much excitement! *
It truly is tutu amazing how these ballet pioneers made ballet and fashion so intricately entwined. But then again, it’s always been like that hasn’t it?
And with that thought, I’ll bid you adieu, but not before mentioning… My little blog here – Pink Tutu, where I'm all about the beautiful tutu – was born right here in Derbyshire! Just like you, my little readers, my tutu dreams came true right here in our fair Derbyshire! Just like every week, you can come to www.pink-tutu.com and find this blog post and all my other exciting, stylish adventures.
Now… What shall I do today? A visit to the ballet is top of the list. The Opéra Garnier awaits! What fun!
Until next #TutuTuesday, dear readers! Take care and make sure your outfits have some flair! Remember, pink is ALWAYS a good idea!
Love, Emma xx
P.S: Did you know… The ballet in Paris in 1932 is still captivating and inspiring dancers and designers!
